Parks Operations maintain public green spaces and outdoor recreational facilities to ensure that a diverse parks system is maintained to the highest possible standard. We ensure opportunities for active and passive leisure that will enhance quality of life for individuals and the community.
Each summer position/level has separate qualifications, expectations, and different shift schedules. Please review each level carefully prior to selecting the position(s) you are applying for.
PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (A-1) – $20.26/ hour
• Ground maintenance of all parks, boulevards, cemetery, playground, and other City of Airdrie properties
• Tasks include but are not limited to: weeding, trimming, litter pick up, basic maintenance, painting, facility cleaning
• Shifts: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am- 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)
• Term: May 1st, 2026 – August 28th, 2026
WEEKEND CREW - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (B) – $22.39/ hour
• Grounds maintenance of all parks, boulevards, cemetery, playgrounds, and other City property
• Tasks include but are not limited to: weeding, litter pickup, facility cleaning, community event support, and equipment operation
• Shift: Friday to Monday, 7:00am – 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)
• Term: May 1st, 2026 – August 31st, 2026
SPRAY PARK ATTENDANT - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (C) –$21.33-$22.39/ hour
• Grounds maintenance at Chinook Winds Spray Park and surrounding parks and maintaining a safe and clean environment at the Spray Park
• Tasks include but are not limited to: opening and closing the facility, monitoring and maintaining the quality of water at the Spray Park, general maintenance and upkeep of the facility and surrounding parks
• Weekend and evening shifts will be required. Operating hours are 7:00am-8:30pm
• Term: May 1st, 2026 – August 31st, 2026
PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (D) - $21.33/ hour
• Grounds maintenance of all parks, boulevards, cemetery, playgrounds, and other City property
• This position includes 4 separate categories of work: 1) Mower operator; 2) Sports fields and turf; 3) Flowers and horticulture; and 4) Playgrounds and amenities
• Tasks include but are not limited to: operation of mowers, tractors (up to 55hp), annual flowers maintenance, playground repairs, and general landscape projects
• Equipment operation experience preferred
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)
• Shift Flowers and Horticulture: Monday- Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 6:00am – 4:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)
• Term: May 1st, 2026 – August 28th, 2026
IRRIGATION CREW - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (E-1) – $21.33-$22.39/ hour
• Grounds maintenance of all irrigated greenspaces
• Tasks include but are not limited to: maintenance of irrigation systems and repairs as needed
• Experience with irrigation maintenance and repair is preferred
• Electrical trouble shooting would be an asset
• Wage is based on experience with irrigation
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)
• Term: May 1st, 2026 – August 28th, 2026
IRRIGATION CREW - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (E-2) – EXTENDED TERM – $21.33-$22.39/ hour
• Grounds maintenance of all irrigated greenspaces
• Tasks include but are not limited to: maintenance of irrigation systems and repairs as needed
• Experience with irrigation maintenance and repair is preferred
• Electrical trouble shooting would be an asset
• Wage is based on experience with irrigation
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)
• Term: May 1st, 2026 – October 9th, 2026
PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (F) – $22.39/ hour
• Grounds maintenance of all parks, boulevards, cemetery, playgrounds, and other City property
• Tasks include but are not limited to: herbicide and pesticide application, weed inspection, tree pruning, woodchipper operation and tree water truck
• Relevant experience and certification are preferred
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)
• Shift: Integrated Pest Management: Monday- Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 6:00am – 4:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)
• Term: May 1st, 2026 – August 28th, 2026
In addition to the positions listed above, we will also have lead hand roles available:
LEAD HAND – Will receive acting pay in addition to base hourly rate
• Work the opposite shift as Crew Leader
• Responsible for keeping accurate records of work performed, collecting tracking information and submitting to Crew Leader weekly
• Work directly with Crew Leader to assist in planning of the daily tasks
• Act as the lead in the absence of the supervisor, ensuring continuity of operations and maintaining a safe, organized work environment.
• Lead by example to foster motivation, accountability, and a strong work ethic among team members.
• Communicate with other Crew Leaders or Coordinator when direct Crew Leader is not available
ALL POSITIONS REQUIRE:
• Valid Class 5 driver's licence
• Ability to operate light equipment
• Basic horticulture and landscaping experience is an asset
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Proven customer service skills
• A can-do, positive attitude
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (D)

Working Conditions:
This position is based on a 38 hour work week, consisting of 9.5 hour days. Duties are performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions. The role is physically demanding and may require heavy lifting, prolonged bending, and kneeling.
Vacation:
If required, a maximum of 40 hours of unpaid vacation may be allotted during the term.
