Position description

The Office of Experiential Learning & Career Development at Mount Allison University is seeking applicants for the role of Entrepreneur in Residence for Summer 2025. Entrepreneurship programming over the summer term is focused on supporting an existing cohort (10-15 students) funded through TD Ready Commitment & Venture Space MtA in successfully validating and launching their businesses.

The role

The role will primarily focus on developing and delivering an intensive 1-week, in person introduction to entrepreneurship. We hope that through small group discussions, readings, and guest speakers, students will be prepared to tackle their start-up and entrepreneurship project over the summer. Topics should include exploring the entrepreneurship journey from identifying their problem clearly, business models, customer discovery and validation as well learning the basics of business finance. At the end of the week, they should have a strong entrepreneurship project plan for their summer.

The team in Experiential Learning & Career Development is available to support the EiR in coordinating and collaborating to create a week of programming for students.

The EiR should also be willing to coach students throughout the summer, providing a monthly check in with feedback and support. Mentorship is also important for our summer students, and we hope that the EiR can help students find mentors and support them in working with their mentor effectively.

There may be other ways to engage with entrepreneurship at MtA over the summer, including providing feedback for fall programming, etc.

You could be a great fit if you :

  • Have owned a business for at least three years.
  • Are comfortable working with students from all disciplines, including fine arts, business, humanities, sciences, and social sciences.
  • Get excited about the ways that entrepreneurship can make a positive impact on the world.
  • Enjoy encouraging people to articulate and achieve their vision.
  • Love acting as a “connector,” linking people with common interests.
  • Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups that traditionally face barriers to business success, such as women, newcomers, members of the BIPOC community, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people with learning disabilities.

Commitment & Compensation

We hope that the successful candidate will be available in person from May 5-May 9 (some flexibility possible), for the 1-week intensive to set our students off for a productive summer project. Check-ins & other activities should take approx. 10 hrs / month in June, July & Aug. Compensation is a $10,000 honorarium.

Interested candidates are asked to submit a cover letter explaining your previous experience in similar settings, and outlining your vision for the summer, along with a curriculum vitae to by March 30, 2025.
