SOWINS is seeking a Transition House Supervisor to provide trauma-informed, transformational leadership that advances safety, stability, and lasting change for women.
WHO YOU ARE
- An experienced, trauma-informed leader who provides clear supervision, guidance, and support to frontline staff in a fast-paced, residential service environment.
- Brings strong operational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage daily program operations, reporting, documentation, and compliance with funder, organizational, and legislative requirements.
- Demonstrates confidence and competence in supervising unionized staff, including performance management, scheduling, time and attendance approval, and participation in labour relations processes.
- Has experience supporting case management, case conferencing, and client-centered service planning for women with complex lived experiences.
- Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster positive team dynamics and build collaborative relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
- Is organized, decisive, and adaptable, able to balance competing priorities while maintaining program quality, staff well-being, and client safety.
- Has a solid understanding of harm reduction, cultural safety, occupational health and safety, and best practices in residential and shelter-based services.
- Is comfortable working within budgets, contributing to program evaluation and improvement, and supporting long-range planning alongside the Transition House Manager.
- Is technologically proficient and confident using systems such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Payworks, and case management databases.
ABOUT THE SOCIETY
Located in the South Okanagan, SOWINS is a non-profit society providing safe refuge and community-based resources for women and children. SOWINS operates a transitional and second-stage housing facilities, including counselling and outreach services. At SOWINS we work from an intersectional feminist philosophy and support trauma-informed practice and harm reduction models.
THE OPPOURTUNITY
We are seeking a Transition House Supervisor to lead frontline staff with integrity, purpose, and impact. Reporting to the Transition House Manager, the Transition House Supervisor supports the management of both day-to-day and long-term operations, ensuring effective service delivery aligned with SOWINS’ mandate, policies, and all contractual, budgetary, and regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Front Line Staff Supervision & Leadership : Provide consistent, trauma-informed supervision and leadership to frontline support workers, including setting clear performance expectations, offering coaching and feedback, conducting performance reviews, and supporting staff well-being, accountability, and professional growth in a unionized environment.Program Operations & Service Delivery : Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Transition House program to ensure safe, effective, and client-centered service delivery. Support long-range planning and program implementation in alignment with SOWINS’ mandate, policies, and best practices in residential and shelter-based services.Case Management Oversight & Client Support : Guide frontline staff in case conferencing, case management, and the development, implementation, and achievement of client service plans. Ensure services are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, harm-reduction oriented, and focused on reducing barriers for women with complex lived experiences.Compliance Documentation & Reporting : Ensure all program documentation, files, and reports are completed accurately, professionally, and confidentially, in compliance with SOWINS policies, funder requirements, legislative standards, and sector best practices. Complete and oversee required month-end and funder reporting.Human Resources & Labour Relations : Manage staffing needs in collaboration with the Transition House Manager and Human Resources, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, approvals of timesheets and leave, participation in discipline processes, grievances, and adherence to the Collective Agreement and occupational health and safety requirements.Program Evaluation, Quality Improvement & Budget Support : Participate in program evaluation and needs assessments, providing recommendations for continuous improvement. Work collaboratively with the Transition House Manager to monitor program activities, support budget adherence, and contribute to long-term planning and sustainability.Community Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement : Build and maintain positive working relationships with community service providers, funders, and stakeholders. Represent the organization at community meetings, committees, and collaborative tables to support coordinated service delivery and strengthen partnerships.QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have a post-secondary degree in a Human / Social Services field, supplemented by leadership, business and / or non-profit management courses.Three (3) years of leadership experience, preferably in a similar sector and unionized environment.One (1) year of direct leadership experience working in a Transition House setting.OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle to visit various SOWINS work sites in Penticton and attend meetings in other locations within the South and Central Okanagan.Completion of satisfactory vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check.Ability to work flexible hours and where required, extended hours to meet operational requirements.Willing to attend special events to support and represent SOWINS in the community.This is an exempt full-time position working 35 hours per week (Tuesday – Saturday), as well as participating in on-call rotation (evenings and weekends). The starting annual salary for this role is $63,700 - $74,620 per year and will be commensurate with experience and education.
