Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join the Neurosciences Waiting List Office. You must be extremely organised with meticulous attention to detail, you will liaise at all levels with clerical, medical and nursing staff. You must be PC and PAS literate, knowledge of Microsoft Office and waiting list procedures would be beneficial but not essential as full training will be given.

The post is critical to support the provision of a full, efficient and effective waiting list administrative service whilst being committed to meeting the national targets within the 18 week RTT pathway. To facilitate these aims, you will be responsible for ensuring that the principles of the treatment targets are embedded within the processes employed at every stage.

    Main duties of the job

    You will work alongside the Senior Waiting List Co-ordinator carrying out duties which will include, but not limited to; data entry, making and receiving telephone calls, scheduling of outpatients and elective admissions, reallocating theatre lists, validation of waiting lists, validation of 18 week wait pathways, communication with patients and other hospital staff around admissions and waiting times.

    Job responsibilities

  • The Waiting List administrative service contributes towards a systematic approach to delivering the NHS Plan commitments for access to elective and day case surgery, specifically the drive to guarantee maximum waiting times and introduce Patient Choice through booking systems. The sensitivity around clinical and management priorities will require the post holder to work with and have the confidence of Consultants and Directorate Managers.
  • Information management and data quality is essential to ensuring effective management of waiting lists.
  • The introduction of Patient Choice through booking systems will require the service to have a strong patient focused approach ensuring that written and verbal communication with patients is conducted in a professional and receptive manner. The booking of admission dates will entail a telephone contact facility. Patient confidentiality must be observed at all times.
  • Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS method of payment is a salary deduction from your first months pay.
