Job description
Randstad Canada is currently managing a search for an experienced Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) to join a long-standing, specialized manufacturing leader in Hamilton, Ontario. Our client is a premier expert in the design and engineering of heavy-duty HVAC systems and prefabricated metal buildings used in extreme industrial environments such as refineries, mines, and steel mills.

This is a full-time, in-person role designed for a "hands-on" technical leader who enjoys managing the entire product lifecycle—from initial client requirements and complex calculations to 3D modeling and final commissioning.

The Ideal Candidate:

Licensed Professional: Must hold a P.Eng. in Ontario and be current with PEO PEAK requirements.

HVAC Specialist: At least 5 years of direct experience in HVAC design, preferably within a manufacturing setting.

Software Expert: High proficiency in AutoCAD and Solidworks for modeling and analysis.

Technical Mentor: Someone capable of providing guidance to junior engineers and validating their progress toward licensure.

Advantages
Competitive Compensation: A robust salary package and comprehensive benefits.

National Impact: Lead high-visibility projects across Canada within critical sectors like healthcare.

Leadership Autonomy: Direct influence over project teams and the ability to shape operational processes.

Thriving Culture: Work in an environment defined by positivity, team support, and a collective "will to win."

Professional Growth: Opportunity to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects (Mechanical/Electrical/Construction).

Work-Life Balance: Based in a central Oakville location with a supportive management structure.

Responsibilities
Perform hands-on mechanical design and conduct detailed analysis of new and existing HVAC products using analytical methods and in-house design software.

Develop comprehensive project documents, including bills of materials, technical calculations, owner manuals, specifications, and commissioning instructions.

Provide expert guidance to junior engineers and drafters, acting as a validator for those pursuing licensure with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

Assess client requirements to design compliant, cost-effective solutions while estimating engineering activities from initial concept through product launch.

Interface with vendors, project management, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of components and sub-systems.

Independently perform Quality Control/Quality Assurance activities and provide remote technical support to end-users and site technicians as needed.

Research industry trends and technology to identify opportunities for design modifications that exploit product improvements.

Know, respect and apply fundamental values, organizational principles, standards, and procedures.

Acquire in-depth knowledge of applicable codes and standards, competitive products, and technology trends.

Conduct necessary background research, modeling, analysis, and testing of design options for new technology and product development.

Organize and prioritize tasks in an effective and timely manner to meet deadlines within agreed timescales and budgets.

Qualifications
Licensed or Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, in good standing with the PEO’s mandatory PEAK program.

Post-Secondary Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.

Minimum of 5 years of direct work experience in Mechanical Engineering, specifically focused on HVAC equipment in a manufacturing environment.

Advanced proficiency in design engineering software, specifically AutoCAD and Solidworks, along with high-level Microsoft Office skills.

In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards, including Building Codes, ASHRAE, and OSHA.

Demonstrated ability to develop non-standard solutions, interpret experimental data, and conduct statistical/uncertainty analysis.

Strong knowledge of electrical/controls (sequence of operations, diagrams, and code) is considered a strong asset.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead multi-disciplined teams and interact with end-users.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and a current passport, as some travel may be required to visit client sites.
