Electrical Engineer

About the Job:

The Electrical Engineer will apply their technical expertise to deliver high quality electrical design services for projects within Ontario’s nuclear generating stations including Pickering, Darlington, and Bruce Power. This role requires a strong team player who collaborates effectively, supports peers, and contributes to business and technical development initiatives.

The successful candidate will work within a fully governed nuclear design environment and will undergo comprehensive training and qualification programs aligned with the Algal Engineering N299.1 Quality Assurance Program and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) engineering qualification requirements including Design Engineer (DE) and Design Team Lead (DTL) qualification pathways.

As an Electrical Engineer working in a nuclear setting, you will provide services for a variety of nuclear and power sector projects involving:

• Medium and low voltage power distribution systems within nuclear facilities
• Overhead medium voltage distribution lines and substations
• Electrical systems supporting nuclear station auxiliaries and plant power systems
• Backup generators, cogeneration, and distributed generation systems
• Power generation and grid interconnections
• Adherence to the CSA N299.1 Nuclear Quality Assurance Program
• Full cycle engineering design under the ECC Nuclear Process at OPG Darlington, Pickering, and Bruce Power
• Development and review of Engineering Change (EC) packages using AS9 (Asset Suite 9)


Technical Design (50-75% of time)

• Prepare technical specifications, engineering reports, and nuclear compliant test plans
• Perform engineering calculations for electrical systems in nuclear facilities
• Create and update design drawings such as power schematics, wiring diagrams, CWDs, and EWDs
• Develop test procedures and commissioning plans for nuclear station equipment
• Review compliance testing, equipment qualification documentation, and vendor technical packages
• Participate in factory acceptance tests and station design reviews


Project Management (15-25% of time)

• Lead engineering tasks to meet nuclear QA, schedule, and cost requirements
• Complete project management activities and required engineering sign offs
• Monitor scope changes and manage scheduling and cost control
• Support project billing cycles and forecasting


Project Administration (10-20% of time)

• Provide full cycle engineering assistance during installation, commissioning, and project closeout at nuclear sites
• Complete project documentation per OPG governance and N299.1 requirements
• Support field walkdowns, issue resolution, and technical clarifications


EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

• University Degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory)
• Valid P.Eng. designation in Ontario (mandatory)
• PMP designation (asset)
• Valid or previous OPG security clearance (mandatory)
• OPG DE or DTL or MTL qualification (asset)
• Experience with Asset Suite 9 (AS9) (mandatory)
• Prior work experience within OPG nuclear facilities (important asset)


TECHNICAL EXPERTISE REQUIRED:

• Strong proficiency in electrical engineering design processes within a nuclear setting
• Experience with nuclear engineering procedures including:

o ECC Risk Based Modification Process
o N-PROC-MP-0090 and N-GUID-00700-10000
o OPG Nuclear governance such as MOD Outline, MDRs, and COMS
o P-MOD and T-MOD processes o Asset Suite 9 including Master EC and Design EC
o Preparation of EC wrap around packages

• Solid understanding of the CSA N299.1 Quality Assurance Program
• Knowledge of CEC, IEEE, and applicable CSA standards for nuclear electrical systems


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• 4 to 10 years of electrical design experience, preferably within OPG or the nuclear industry
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort leading meetings with station stakeholders
• Ability to manage relationships among internal and external groups to meet nuclear project requirements
• Strong understanding and adherence to nuclear governance and procedures with a questioning attitude
• High attention to detail and accuracy within a nuclear QA environment
• Ability to work in a hybrid office and site environment
• Experience leading an engineering team or project (asset)
• Commitment to quality, collaboration, and professional integrity
