Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Charge Technologist or designate, the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) assists the laboratory with sample triaging, accessioning, and processing of specimens. The MLA may perform basic routine procedures according to established protocols, perform phlebotomies per departmental policy, and maintain a safe environment in accordance with professional and provincial guidelines. The MLA ensures compliance with quality assurance programs and adheres to standards set by accreditation bodies. All functions align with Shared Health’s Mission, Values, current policies, and applicable legislation.
