Laurel Steel, located in Burlington is looking to add the right candidates to fill the role of Payroll Specialist

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the payroll processing function, including reviewing, and verifying payroll data and ensuring the accuracy of employee payroll information.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Processing of the weekly salary payroll as well as the monthly Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
  • Reviewing the weekly hourly and contract payroll processed by the Payroll Administrator.
  • Process special payments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and provincial payroll laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Analyze payroll data and identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources in the administration of the Pension, RRSP, and group benefits program, including payments and monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare payroll-related filings and supporting documentation, such as year-end tax statements, pension, Records of Employment, Workers' Compensation, and other statements.
  • Prepare and balance period-end reports and reconcile issued payrolls to the general ledger.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly payroll-related payments and reporting as required.
  • Assist with any payroll, benefit, or pension-related audits.
  • Manage relationships with external payroll vendors, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of payroll data and processing.
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees and respond to payroll inquiries and issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS :

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role
  • Post Secondary Diploma
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification is required.
  • Experience processing payroll through Ceridian Dayforce.
  • Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs with exceptional skills using Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and practice discretion in handling confidential and sensitive material.
  • Must be a team player with a flexible work style and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
