ABOUT THE ROLE
St. Joseph's Care Group (SJCG) is hiring BScN and Practical Nursing students to work as Personal Support Workers (PSWs) within Hogarth Riverview Manor (HRM) and Bethammi Nursing Home (BNH) for summer employment opportunities. The Personal Support Worker works under the close supervision of the Registered Nurse and Registered Practical Nurse, providing personal care to clients/residents and respecting their physical, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual needs and preferences.

FAST FACTS

Hogarth Riverview Manor is a 544-bed long-term care home with 17 resident home areas.

• Positions start at $28.17 per hour plus a percent in lieu of benefits/vacation.

Bethammi Nursing Home is a a 112-bed long-term care home with 2 resident home areas.

• Positions start at $28.09 per hour plus a percent in lieu of benefits/vacation.

Both long-term care homes provide a comfortable, familiar and home-like environment and specialize in Alzheimer's and dementia care. Each home fosters resident-focused care reflective of SJCG's core values of Care, Compassion, & Commitment.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Practical Nursing Program
• Successfully completed all program requirements for year 1
• Continued Enrolment into year 2
• Previous experience in a long-term care home preferred

Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as critical thinking and problem-solving abilities relative to the situation and scope of practice
• Demonstrated commitment to people-centered care
• Demonstrated ability to use computer applications including Word, Windows, email, and electronic health records or documentation systems
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Demonstrated regular attendance at work

Assets:

• Certification relevant to practice setting (i.e. Gerontology, Dementia, Palliative Care), including training in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) and U-First is an asset
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is an asset
• Demonstrated familiarity with the Long-Term Care Homes Act and Regulations is an asset

Conditions of Employment:

• This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
