Based at our Saskatoon plant location, we are searching for a Production Superintendent . This role is accountable for the general oversight of the Production and Rendering Department at the Saskatoon Plant. The position will have a close, high level of interaction with all Production Department employees, external governing regulatory bodies, contractors, service providers and key WCRL stakeholders from Corporate Office to achieve the Company’s goals in safety, cleanliness and productive capacity. The Production Superintendent will supervise and coordinate work activities for staff engaged in the rendering operations of the plant.

Operations Management
Direct supervision of Shift Leads and Lead Hands with respect to department personnel, cost, delivery, scheduling and department operationsSupervises the rendering production teams to ensure Standard Operating Procedures are followed, and that product quality and specifications meet customer requirementsAssist with the monitoring of boiler, wastewater, air compression, and air pollution performance ensuring systems are in good working order and meet regulatory complianceCoordinate with Fleet & Transportation Department to ensure the efficient processing of raw products and finished goodsWork closely with Maintenance Department in the scheduling, repair and installation activities related to rendering equipmentPrepare and adhere to operating labour budgets for the Production DepartmentMaintains and develops both a production facility and workforce capable of meeting production requirements in the present and future to accomplish business objectivesDevelops an operating plan for the Production Department; initiates action to operate within those plansEnsures that project and department milestones, goals are met and adhered to with respect to previously set budgetsPrepares and maintains reports (daily production, tonnage balances), reconciliations and recommendations for yield adjustmentsDelegates authority and responsibility to direct reports and coordinates production, maintenance and transportation activitiesSolves problems involving workflow, utilization of personnel skills, systems and facility to ensure an efficient and expedient production processCoordinates productive daily, weekly and / or monthly meetings with Shift Leads, Lead Hands and production staff including creation of Tool Box Meeting schedulesSchedule training and maintain training records of all employees in production departmentLegal & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure the Production Department’s systems and processes are operating within the guidelines of our CFIA operating permit, HACCP program and other regulatory requirementsOversees entire rendering production at the Saskatoon Plant, ensuring product quality control standards are metAdministration and record keeping of HACCP, CFIA and other pertinent documents related to applicable Municipal, Provincial, National and International governancePeople Management & Human Resources
Acts in liaison between management and the production workforce to keep Plant Manager informed; maintain highest possible level of employer-employee relationshipSupervises and trains supervisory personnel by directing their activities, and through them the activities of the entire Production DepartmentManage payroll time-keeping records for department employees within the payroll software systemFinal time-approver for payroll submission and provide authorization of overtime shifts or vacation approvalsRecruit, hire and train the necessary personnel to staff of the department to the forecasted level of operationPeople development and active performance management of department staff in conjunction with other Divisional ManagementProvide leadership to other plant employees to maintain productivity, while limiting and resolving conflictsSafety
Ensure that employees and operations are conducted safely and responsibly within the corporate programs and procedures of safety and best management practicesAssist in the implementation of safety procedural changes in addition to providing recommendations on improvements to Health and Safety CoordinatorEncourage a safety culture where employees do not put themselves or others at riskAdditional Responsibilities
Assist Plant Manager with major budget expenditures and submission of requisitions for day-to-day purchasing requirementsProvide back-up relief of Plant Manager responsibilities during absencesAdhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. PoliciesFoster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company valuesPerform other duties as assigned by Manager.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 10 years progressive experience in a 24 / 7 plant operation environment (production, maintenance, quality, safety, environmental compliance and administration) requiredMinimum of 5 years leadership experience in an industrial processing environment, or similar industry requiredPossession of a valid 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate required; 2nd Class certificate an assetEducational background in chemistry, sciences or agriculture a significant assetAbility to understand and adapt to constantly changing variables in the production process and make appropriate modifications to procedures or systemsPossess extensive knowledge of production processes and operating efficiencies; solid understanding of WCRL finished good productsAbility to lead and communicate in a clear and concise mannerExcellent communication skills (written and oral), people skills (able to motivate, coach and develop people)The work requires fitness to the extent that the incumbent must be able to access all parts of the plant at any given time, including : heights, ladders, multiple levels of stairs and rooftops. Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Maintenance Planning Software, Payroll Software and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems required
