Digital Access Librarian – District of West Vancouver
Temporary, Full-Time (Internal Posting)
The West Vancouver Memorial Library is a well‑known innovative and award‑winning library that prioritizes inclusion, a learning culture, organizational integrity, and enhancing community through its programs, services, and relationships. Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil‑Waututh Nations, the library serves the vibrant community on the North Shore with parks, beaches, and a variety of recreational and arts amenities.
Responsibilities
- Developing and delivering instructional programs for both kids and adults;
- Providing advice, assistance, and advanced support to users of various technologies;
- Developing and deploying technology‑related initiatives throughout the library;
- Participating as a member of a team engaged in the planning, design, and implementation of spaces, infrastructure, and digital services;
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
Preferred Candidate Will Possess Working Knowledge Of
- The principles and practices of librarianship;
- The key components of WVML’s online presence and the tech‑related services offered, including a robust existing suite of programs;
- The principles of instructional design, both in‑person and virtual, including facilitation in recorded and live video formats;
- PC and Mac platforms and software applications;
- Mobile device and e‑reader platforms;
- Apps, tools and resources for digital content consumption and creation;
- Key virtual instruction tools such as video‑conferencing platforms, basic video editing and social‑networking tools;
- Familiarity with classroom‑management techniques.
Preferred Candidate Will Also Possess Some Familiarity With
- Programming languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
- Coding languages such as Python;
- Digitization tools and software;
- Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality;
- The ability to work with web content and functionality;
- Engage audiences on camera for demonstrations, training, and live‑streaming in hybrid programming;
- Plan, organize and carry out projects independently and as part of a cross‑functional team;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and staff;
- Provide timely and effective customer service;
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
The successful candidate will have a degree in librarianship from an accredited library school, including or supplemented by courses in one or more of the following: instructional design, youth and/or seniors’ services, website design, Microsoft Office, programming, multimedia development, user experience, digital collections and services, and preferably some professional library experience. Fluency in Farsi or Mandarin will be considered an asset. The candidate must supply a vulnerable‑sector police information check and a copy of credentials. A cover letter is required.
Position Details
- Union (WVMEA) – Temporary, Full-Time
- Starting Date: January 2026 for approximately 4 months
- Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week (hours and days may vary)
- Starting Rate of Pay: $40.13 per hour plus 14 % in lieu of benefits (pay structure with five steps that increase annually)
