Job Title : OSS Infrastructure Specialist

Type : Contract; 6 months.   This role is also available on a Permanent, Full time basis.

Location : Oakville, ON

Start Date : Immediate

Overview :

Our client is seeking a highly skilled, motivated and dynamic individual to join their Infrastructure team.   The OSS Infrastructure Specialist supports & administers applications, software tools, & operating systems infrastructure and provides operational support the organization platform.

Platform :

  • Much of the existing development environment is Microsoft-oriented (.NET 3.5 / 4.0, C#, MSMQ, SQL Server, WCF), but includes a rapidly-increasing mix of other technologies (Linux, Java EE, Glassfish, Android) as the organizations network is extended into other medical devices and platform offerings.   The role will work with a product in a fast track to market, including mechanical handling, sensors, machine vision, VOIP, web portals, user interactions, inventory systems, and database reporting.   Software must be designed and implemented to operate in a highly distributed, dependable, and secure networked environment.

Role :

  • Deployment of operating systems, applications & tools for operational support of the Platform, including setup of hypervisor environments, deployment of Linux, setup of middleware applications, databases and other systems software.
  • Selection, deployment, configuration & administration of software for configuration management, address management, name management, event, incident & problem management in support of ITIL processes.
  • Selection, deployment, configuration & administration of systems software for authentication, naming, addressing, configuration, boot image management, etc.
  • Deployment, configuration & administration of databases used by operational support tools.
  • Development of scripts and tools required for administration automation.
  • Selection, deployment, configuration & administration of software systems for automation of high scale environments.
  • 2nd tier OSS infrastructure technical support
  • Incident, root cause analysis, & repair of OSS infrastructure problems
  • Skills :

  • University Degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited educational institution is preferred (or equivalent, direct and related working experience will be considered)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant and recent hands on work experience
  • Strong English language communications skills, both written and verbal
  • 5 or more year’s administration experience with open source web based application infrastructure, including Java application engines (Glassfish, Apache, and Tomcat).
  • 5 or more years experience with open source operational support software (e.g. Freeradius, DCHP, DNS, LDAP, Kerberos, NTP, etc)
  • 5 or more years experience with large scale virtualization environments using Xen & Hyper-V, Linux (Ubuntu Server), system administration automation (e.g. cfengine) and system administration scripting (Perl and / or python)
  • 5 or more years experience with open source database infrastructure (MySQL, PostgreSQL), setup, configuration & tuning
  • Experience with software usable in support ITIL processes such as configuration management (e.g. cfengine), incident & problem management (e.g. OTRS, OpenNMS), and other ITIL processes.
  • Experience with large scale high availability highly virtualized computing environments
  • Experience with Voice over IP & Video over IP software infrastructure (freeswitch, asterix) desirable
  • Knowledge of enterprise service bus technology (OpenESB, ServiceMix, MuleESB)
  • Excellent technical skills, ability to debug, think logically and work problems under pressure
  • Good documentation skills, ability to write technical English
  • Ability to work productively and complete assigned work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with ITIL v3 environments & processes
