Base pay range

CA$130,000.00 / yr - CA$150,000.00 / yr

Tax Manager

As the Tax Manager, you will work at a variety of levels and in various industries such as Investments, high net worth individuals, owner-managed businesses, cross-border work, and more.

You will be required to complete the necessary forms for the firm's clients or for the businesses in which they work while ensuring compliance and advising executive leadership / clients on best practices and emerging issues related to tax.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies for various clients
  • Research various tax issues for tax planning and compliance and prepare concise and conclusive research memoranda
  • Identify and implement tax planning opportunities, including tax reorganizations, estate plans, and post mortem tax planning
  • Assist senior staff members in all aspects of corporate tax initiatives
  • Maintain a current and high level of familiarity and understanding of tax codes, regulations, and other technical information
  • Utilize staff to meet client deliverables in a timely manner and on budget
  • Engage in discussions and correspondence with various tax authorities to explain positions taken by clients and to determine reasons for assessed amounts
  • Keep senior managers / partners apprised of the progress of assigned tasks; focus on moving files / engagements forward and managing within time budgets
  • Prepare various complex tax returns, tax forms and various tax elections
  • Write external publications and blog posts and other memoranda
  • Present on specific tax topics internally and externally
  • Provide guidance and support the development of junior members of the tax team
  • Participate in firm promotion events to increase awareness of the firm and its services in the marketplace

Qualifications :

  • Must have a minimum of :
  • University degree
  • At least four years’ practical experience in public practice
  • Exceptional technical skills
  • Keen attention to detail along with an ability to focus on the overall concepts
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to providing excellent client service
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Contributes positively to a team environment, but able to work independently when required
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines
  • Work effectively within budgets and timelines

  • Skills - Must Have :

    Canadian CPA Designation Enrolled or completion of the MTAX or CPA In-Depth Tax course 3+ years of current Canadian Tax experience at another CPA firm in Canada 3+ years of Canadian Tax; Tax consulting, planning, compliance, returns and reorganizations for individuals, corporations, trusts and partnerships Must have experience managing a team at a CPA firm Must be able to work hybrid at the Toronto office
