Raise is hiring a Two ( 2) Distribution Intermediate Civil Geotechnical Engineers for Our Client one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.
This position is a Five (5) month contract with a strong potential for annual contract renewal. This role will bel located in Burnaby, BC.

Description
The Civil Geotechnical Engineer in this role will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective design, construction, and operation for Hydro distribution systems.
You will leverage your geotechnical expertise to address site-specific challenges and contribute to the successful delivery of low-to-medium complexity projects.
Accountabilities
- Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform activities such as developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications on low to medium complexity assignments for projects and / or operations.
- Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by performing activities such as proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
- Participate in ’s engineering practice by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs, and making typical decisions related to standard methods and designs so that ’s engineering standards are maintained.
- Perform periodic tasks independently which may include on-site construction quality control and monitoring to ensure design compliance.
- Engage with ’s senior engineering team where engineering problems are difficult, complex, or unusual to support ’s management of engineering risk.
Required
- 4 years as geotechnical engineer in British Columbia with thorough knowledge and experience in design related to Distribution plant including U / G and O / H including slope stability, slide risk, erosion, etc
- Experience with feasibility studies, preliminary design, detailed design, field work, etc
- Familiar with MMCD, MoTI Utilities Manual, CoV Utilities Design Manual, etc... and codes and design requirements of Authorities Having Jurisdiction
- Thorough understanding of safety in the field / thorough understanding of environmental effects and impacts of existing conditions, construction activities, and permanent installations
- Experience with and working in Canadian electric utility
- Experience with and working in proximity to energized electric plant
- Experience in coordination with other utilities in public
- Familiar with temporary shoring methods
- Familiar with working in public environment
- Familiar with permitting processes for utilities in public
- Familiar with environmental, archeological, and properties aspects of civil engineering projects
- Education / Skills Bachelors degree in Civil or Geothermal EngineeringRegistered P.Eng. and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hiredThorough working knowledge of common industry analysis and design softwareStrong verbal and written communication skills written test will be administered during interviewMust be independent and work effectively with minimal interaction.
Must be knowledgeable and comfortable using the latest remote working technologies to correspond and collaborate with project stakeholders.
Current confined space entry trainingPSSP 2, 3, and DBC (can be provided by BCH)Valid Class 5 BC Driver License - must be willing to travel including by car, plane, and boat
Additional Information
Candidates must be located in the lower mainland as they will be working a hybrid schedule of at least 2 days in the office
Every contractor must supply their own Windows 10 or 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
Every contractor must supply their own Smart Phone . This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
