Position Description

Reporting to the Director, Simulation with matrix reporting to the Director Infant Early Mental Health Program (IEMHP), the Communications Advisor supports SimKids and IEMHP's strategic direction through the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive Communications Strategy which includes mechanisms to support effective and ongoing internal and external communications. The Communications Specialist will oversee the design and delivery of our communication streams (e.g., website, email account, mailing lists, social media platforms) and analyze the performance of these mediums. The Communication Advisor ensures consistency in messaging, and that appropriate and effective methods are used to communicate SimKids and IEMHP activities, events, and resources. The Communications Advisor will work closely with various members of the SimKids and IEMHP to ensure consistency, tone, and accuracy in all materials. The Communications Advisor will also provide support in the dissemination of materials and key messages.

Here's What You'll Get to Do

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Develop and execute effective strategies that are part of a comprehensive Communications Plan to ensure timely, responsive, and appropriate communication of program initiatives, courses, events, resources, and opportunities through vehicles such as the websites, internal and external newsletters, and e-blasts.
  • Develop ideas and plans for social media and then execute according to the Communications Plan.
  • Support and coordinate the production of newsletters and annual reports, including developing feature themes; photography, graphics, content development, and final production.
  • Support the development of website content and ensure existing content is up to date.
  • Develop marketing and promotional materials for courses, events, resources, and other program initiatives to support revenue generation.
  • Participate in the execution of special events.
  • Provide proofreading and editing support for publications, pamphlets, briefing notes, etc.
  • Manage the IEMHP General Mailbox and direct queries to the appropriate IEMHP Lead; respond to general inquiries as needed.
  • Ensure AODA compliance across all platforms and in all program materials.
  • Participate in team meetings, huddles, and project meetings.
  • Build strong relationships with a wide variety of teams and partners.
  • Support other marketing initiatives and activities as necessary (e.g., for Knowledge Translation Program, Learning Institute).

Here's What You'll Need

  • Degree / diploma in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related area is required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience.
  • Superior written English with exceptional editing and proofreading capabilities.
  • Ability to take steps to ensure timely completion of tasks by adjusting priorities as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Can utilize computer technology to support communications projects, including knowledge of social media and other emerging technologies and communications practices.
  • Experienced in marketing, promotion, and brand management.
  • Deal effectively with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.
