St.Amant supports over 5,000 people in Manitoba with developmental disabilities, autism and acquired brain injury. We are a not-for-profit organization that offers a wide range of supports for adults, children and their families. Position Summary and Scope of Service
This position could be comprised of pediatric clients. Work takes place with the Outreach Therapy for Children (OTC) program, within Clinical Services, which is part of the Children's Therapy Network of Manitoba (CTNM).
St.Amant is fully accredited and offers outreach and residential services to individuals with developmental disabilities and Autism. St.Amant utilizes an interdisciplinary team approach, drawing on a full range of professional services, to assist individuals to achieve and maintain optimal levels of personal development and independence.
The Physiotherapist provides service in accordance with the Mission and Values of St.Amant, policies and procedures of Clinical Services, external legislation, regulatory bodies and all relevant professional standards of practice. The Physiotherapist is familiar with and promotes a “customer service focus” in the provision of service to clients, staff and in other professional relationships.
The Physiotherapist performs all duties professionally, ethically and with integrity. The Physiotherapist takes an active role and personal responsibility for continuous learning to promote knowledge and best practices. The Physiotherapist participates in staff development opportuneness, research and maintains all professional registrations and continuing education requirements.
Qualifications
Education and Professional :
- Graduate of an accredited university program in Physiotherapy
- Possess and maintains licensure with the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba and is a member in good standing
- Member of or eligible for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association
Clinical :
Experience in the area of developmental disabilities or a background in neurology is an assetExperience in the provision of special devices, especially in seating and mobility is an assetKnowledgeable of the history of service to people with disabilities, current trends, philosophies and practices concerning care, education and lifestylesAbility to understand, support and practice interdisciplinary teamwork in order to provide service in the clinical, educational or living environments of the person with a developmental disabilityAbility to manage and define a service plan with individual and care giversKnowledge of direct, mediated, and consultative models of practice and ability to apply these according to program protocolUnderstand own clinical limitations and seek support and consultation for clinical activities so as to do “no harm”Prioritize, structure, and manage scheduling caseload(s) effectively to achieve targeted outcomesPersonal :

Clinical Care Management :
The Physiotherapist will develop and implement a plan for services while ensuring adherence to St.Amant Mission and Values, policies and professional regulations.
Duties include :
Assesses and documents the clients' physical needs and abilities; develops and implements appropriate treatment interventionsIntegrates treatment goals and interventions that align with educational / vocational programming and the home living environmentsProvides necessary demonstration and training to individuals and care givers who will be carrying out gross motor or other Physiotherapy related activitiesEnsures the provision of special devices and orthotic equipment by working in consultation with funding agencies, commercial dealers, rehabilitation engineers and orthotics as requiredProvides for the maintenance and modification of special devices by monitoring equipment and working with the special devices technician or eternal service providersProvides assessment and follows up on orthopedic problems by regularly monitoring and recommending referral to orthopedic specialists as indicated.Develops and monitors clinical programsEnsures the involvement of an individual's support network including direct care givers and family members (where applicable) in the assessment and intervention processEnsures there is appropriate consent related to intervention and exchange of information and reviews this regularlyEnsures that a service plan and timelines are specified for the intervention / transition processConsults effectively with other supports and services to ensure coordination of planningDocuments and maintains client files in a format consistent with program protocol and timelinesEnsures clinical outcomes are monitored, documented and sharedReports and documents all high risk or potentially high-risk situation according to PolicyEvaluates new products and equipment to meet client specific needsDevelops or constructs material for client use or supervise a Clinical Assistant or Technician (where applicable) assigned to this functionDevelops clinical specialties / competencies in accordance with priority needs of the clientsIncorporates a research informed approach towards the delivery of serviceThe above information is intended to describe the general nature of this position and is not considered to be a complete statement of duties and responsibilities.
