Department Overview
About the Capital Development & Facilities Management Department at Humber :
Capital Development & Facilities Management is responsible for new construction and renovation projects and provides project design, planning and space allocation services to improve and expand Humber's campus environment. We maintain all college buildings and grounds to provide a safe, clean, healthy and well-maintained campus environment that supports well-being and promotes excellence in teaching and learning at Humber. We also lead the college’s sustainability programs through the Office of Sustainability.
About the Role
The Energy Engineer will support Humber’s overall climate action and energy efficiency objectives with a specific focus on improving the efficiency of its existing building stock of over 3M ft2 over two main campuses. The Energy Engineer will identify, assess, prioritize, recommend and implement opportunities for energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions reductions of mechanical and electrical building systems. This will include project management for the delivery of medium sized construction projects. Existing infrastructure and systems (Building Automation System, Energy Management Information System, Lighting Control System, Energy Analytics & Fault Detection System) will also be utilized to uncover anomalies in operational data; corrective actions will be implemented in conjunction with the operations teams or capital projects.
Responsibilities
Building Optimization : Identify, assess, prioritize, recommend and implement energy saving opportunities related to operational changes. Engage with the operations team and departments as necessary. Work to create and foster a sustainable energy management culture.
Identify, assess, prioritize and recommend energy-saving initiatives, including preparing business cases to support capital expenditures
Energy Projects : Identify, assess, prioritize, recommend and implement opportunities for energy saving capital projects. This will include preparation of business cases to justify capital expenditures. Act as a resource to project teams for planned renovation projects.
Project management of energy efficiency projects ( Support planned building renovations and maintenance projects as a subject matter expert to maximize opportunities for energy efficiency.
Measurement and Verification : Develop reporting process for annual reports to Senior Management on Key Performance Indicators in the overall performance of the College’s energy plans; execute weather correction calculations that address weather sensitivity and seasonality; perform measurement & verification activities on individual sub-projects to verify savings and inform future projects.
Incentives : Coordinate incentive applications with local utility providers
Education & Awareness : Promote initiatives and successes to internal and external community to position Humber as a leader in energy efficiency. This includes presentations at conferences, academic engagement, writing technical papers, and hosting events and tours for peer organizations and industry.

Education
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Engineering
The successful candidate will also possess a P. Eng. designation and be licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario, or Engineering Intern (EIT), mechanical preferred
A Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Energy Manager in Training (EMIT) is an asset
A Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP) is an asset
Experience / Skills
Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders with independence and professionalism
