Commensurate with placement on the SMS Salary Grid based on years of teaching experience & education(TQS Category).
All candidates must hold a valid B.C. TRB Teachers Certificate and be legally able to work in Canada.

Summary
St. Margarets School (SMS) is Western Canadas only girl-centered independent day and boarding school located in Victoria British Columbia Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations Songhees Nations and WSÁNEC Nations. Founded in 1908 SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 712). St. Margarets School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Programme and we are a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic teaching professional who demonstrates excellence in curriculum delivery embraces the delivery of the redesigned curriculum motivates and inspires students to love English language learning and engages students with project-based and inquiry-based learning. Proven facility in providing adaptive teaching strategies to accommodate a diversity of learning styles abilities and interests is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Create implement and deliver the course curriculum including piloting / delivering the BC curriculum to students in Grades 9.
• Regular collaboration with colleagues to share ideas plan interdisciplinary/thematic cross-grade activities.
• Provide supportive flexible routines and procedures within a culturally and intellectually inclusive classroom.
• Foster the cognitive social and emotional growth of girls.
• Set an inspiring supportive learning environment to encourage every student in reaching her potential.
• Skilled at building relationships of trust and mentorship with students.
• Regular collaboration with colleagues to share ideas and plan cross-grade activities.
• Attending regular monthly staff meetings and school-required events.
• Preparation of student reports is required both formal written reports and regular informal communication with parents.
• Available to attend meetings with parents and colleagues to support the needs of the students in the class.
• Presence at school functions is required including Meet the Teacher Evening Parent-Teacher Interviews Student-led Conferences and Open Houses.
  
  

Required Education & Experience

• Current and Valid teacher certification through the Teacher Regulation Branch.
• Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts with a Major in English.
• Minimum three years teaching experience in the Middle Years area.
  
  

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Familiarity and experience teaching ELL learners at the secondary level.
• Familiarity working in an inquiry-focused setting and incorporating 21st Century teaching strategies.
• Familiar with a variety of teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of girls.
• Superior communication organizational and interpersonal skills in working with colleagues and parents.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Willingness to participate in school-wide professional development opportunities and to attend whole school staff meetings.
• Ability to establish good relationships and interact positively with all staff faculty and students
• Positive role model to all members of the St. Margarets community
