Scope
With over 1000 new residents per month, the City of Surrey is one of fastest growing municipalities in Canada. To support this growth and help continue to build a thriving, green and inclusive city, our Engineering Land Development Division is hiring a Development Engineer who will play a key role in overseeing the engineering components of development applications and supporting the Development Services section.
Responsibilities
Primary accountabilities of this role are to :
- Providing engineering review of land development applications and ensuring projects are designed according to City requirements, industry best practices, and long-term strategic plans.
- Representing the City and liaising with internal stakeholders, engineering consultants, developers, external agencies, and members of the public.
- Defining terms of references and conduct technical reviews.
- Developing conceptual servicing designs, high-level cost estimates, and innovative solutions for both development applications and departmental standards & guidelines.
- Generating solutions based on engineering practice and industry standards, while enhancing current practices and procedures.
- Providing direction on detailed civil designs and infrastructure servicing requirements.
- Attending public information and engagement meetings.
- Preparing reports, presentations, and responses to queries from Council, committees, and the public.
- Providing strategic input on corporate initiatives and policies. Qualifications
- Completion of a related degree or diploma and a minimum of 2 years of related technical / engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) is an asset.
- Directly related experience within the public sector and / or working as a municipal consultant is an asset.
- Ability to attend public meetings and / or advisory meetings beyond regular office hours.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to adapt to a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to provide service, think critically, and deliver results to mutually meet the needs of developers, consultants, and members of the public, while maintaining corporate priorities.
- A valid and unrestricted driver's license is required. Other Information
