Job description

Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Position

The Senior Contracts Specialist is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG ’ s dynamic team. You will  support and oversee the environmental management practices of a construction project you will not only ensure compliance with legal and contractual environmental requirements for the project but also contributes to Woodfibre LNG enduring dedication to corporate social responsibility.  The successful candidate reports directly to the Contracts Manager and will play an essential part in supporting the company’s engineering and senior management team through the construction phase of the project.

Key Responsibilities :

The successful applicant will :

  • Manage contracts to ensure performance, compliance, and alignment with Woodfibre LNG Project objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to Project HSSE requirements and best practices.
  • Provide guidance on interpreting and applying EPC contract terms and related documents to project teams.
  • Collaborate closely with project management and legal teams to ensure contract documentation complies with financial, governance, and legal standards.
  • Foster strong working relationships with the EPC contractor and other stakeholders.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and execute EPC-related documents with attention to detail, analyzing risks, and providing mitigation strategies and commercial recommendations.
  • Proactively manage the EPC contract to minimize disputes and claims.
  • Support subcontract management, whether led by WLNG or the EPC contractor.
  • Implement EPC contracting processes, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee compliance with Indigenous and local content commitments and economic development agreements.
  • Ensure timely payments under the EPC contract, aligned with progress and milestone payment structures.
  • Maintain awareness of local, domestic, and international market dynamics.

Requirements

Required Experience :

  • Post-secondary education in business, economics, legal, supply chain, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Oil & Gas or heavy industry (owner-side experience preferred) in Contracting, Procurement, or Supply Chain.
  • Demonstrated experience in post-award contract management and governance.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to cope with complexity, deadlines, heavy workload, fast-paced environment, uncertainty, and delivery of critical priorities.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and networking skills.
  • Strong hold on data management, ability to work with ambiguous / large volumes of data.
  • Additional Requirements :

  • Experience with large, multidisciplinary teams in multicultural environments is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships and manage interfaces across Business, Finance, and other teams.
  • Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to implement plans, identify process improvements, and adapt to new challenges.
  • Takes accountability and fosters a culture of ownership while sharing knowledge and supporting team development.
  • Proficient in programs such as MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Aconex, and SAP.
  • Energetic, innovative, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Holds a valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Flexible to work in a combination of office and site-based environments with travel to locations such as Houston, Squamish, Ottawa, and others.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • The position is based in the Company’s Vancouver Office with regular visits to the project site in Squamish, BC as required.
