Job Summary
This position has a major impact on process manufacturing reliability, serving as a technical resource and collaborating with internal and external contacts to achieve reliability targets. It requires safety assignments and plant assignments that support plant supervision.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Projects Engineer, the Electrical Engineer provides technical supportSuggestion to improve and troubleshoot plant electrical and electronic systems in power distribution and process instrumentation. The incumbent manages projects from inception through AFE development, installation, and commissioning, and collaborates with the Construction group on capital projects and plant improvement scopes.

Technical Ability / Problem Solving
Lead planning, budgeting, and execution of multidisciplinary projects, including acquisition, replacement, and modification of electrical and instrumentation assets through the Management of Change system.Provide specialized technical support for Engineering and Maintenance, overseeing equipment design reviews, inspections, and condition monitoring for both power and control systems.Develop engineered designs and technical drafting for plant‑wide replacements and modifications.Support troubleshooting and commissioning of process electronic instrumentation, including advanced DCS and PLC architectures.Support installation and maintenance of medium‑to‑high voltage power distribution (up to 13.8 kV) and large‑scale electric motor drives (up to 2000 hp).Drive improvement projects from design to completion, aligning power distribution needs with instrumentation precision.Assist maintenance in lifecycle reviews to improve reliability and identify upgrade opportunities.Conduct electrical system studies—Arc Flash Analysis, Short Circuit Studies, Protective Device Coordination—to enhance safety and equipment protection.Perform gap assessments of company standards to ensure compliance and identify action items.Review maintenance and project packages to ensure adherence to engineering standards,_safety codes, and technical specifications.Understand and apply regional codes (CEC) and international standards (NFPA 70, IEC).Communication, Coordination & Reporting
Work effectively with Engineering, Construction, and other stakeholders to maintain open communication and ensure project success.Maintain accurate plant information and update it as required.Maintain liaison with plant personnel on engineering responsibilities.Prepare regular project and monthly reports presenting study results, proposals, and work status.Assist or lead conflict resolution on projects, meeting stakeholder requirements while keeping projects on time.Use strong written and verbal communication skills.Self / Staff Development
Manage activities for multiple assignments and studies, ensuring orderly progress on all jobs.Collaborate closely with vendors, consultants, and stakeholders for effective project execution.Support continuous improvement through teamwork and the application of quality planning principles.Productivity & Adaptability
Manage multiple assignments and studies with varying scope and priority, ensuring timely progress.Comply with corporate processes, identify deficiencies, and report them to the department manager.Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality planning practices.Act as an on‑site contact for outside contractors, following Contractor Management Program requirements.Travel within North America as required for assigned projects.Assist during plant outages or turnarounds, and may work in a supervisory role during non‑standard hours.Position Qualifications
B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, with at least 5 years’ experience in petro‑chemical or fertilizer manufacturing.Related engineering degree and experience from another environment will be considered.
Registered P. Eng with APEGA or another Canadian province in good standing; able to transfer to Alberta.Proven history of leading multidisciplinary electrical and instrumentation projects; PMP certification considered an asset.Additional Information
