Job Description
Responsibilities
- Conduct and/or lead complex and/or major financial evaluations, studies and forecasts with significant and long term impacts and/or political sensitivities involving new business activities, emerging financial and strategic issues. Analyze and assess business and financial risks, opportunities and requirements. Develop and present recommendations and related financial and/or business solutions or program/project proposals, budgets, business cases, and/or proposed feasibility studies and/or pilots for assigned studies and projects.
- Prepare, present and act as an expert advocate for financial and business solutions to senior management, working groups or committees; explain recommendations and guide clients to adopt the most prudent and efficient financial and business solution(s); analyze and review client submissions for accuracy, completeness and compliance with Business Group and corporate policies and procedures; act as a subject matter expert and/or primary work contact to BC Hydro's external auditors.
- Develop, evaluate, implement and test complex and/or major new or revised financial policies, procedures, processes and systems. Initiate continuous improvement to business processes and systems.
- Monitor and provide project leadership throughout the development and implementation phases of approved projects to assigned project staff and/or consultants; intervene and follow up to correct implementation problems; monitor, control and expedite project timing and targets; review and approve contractor and other project invoices prior to managerial sign off.
- Develop and apply advanced evaluation, statistical and financial analytical processes, methodologies, models and tools for own and other financial studies undertaken by lower level Financial Analysts; apply statistical models; analyze, develop, prepare or evaluate financial forecasts, summary conclusions, reasons and explanations for differences between forecasted and actual results; prepare recommendations and supporting data, tables etc.; develop and implement methods and techniques to improve forecasting and financial evaluations and analyses.
- May perform some or all of the same duties as the Financial Analyst 1 & 2. Provide technical direction, advice and/or training to management and lower level financial accounting employees and project team members; may be required to provide leadership over assigned staff; may be required to provide training and support to non‑financial managers on the financial system.
- Perform duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
Qualifications
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) required.
- Five (5) years of experience in progressively more responsible financial and business accounting roles, including two (2) years as a Financial Analyst 2 or in an equivalent role.

- 1 full‑time permanent opportunity, based in our Edmonds office in Burnaby, BC.
- This role is classified as a Hybrid role under the flexible work model. It expects working in the office at least two days per week, with flexibility for more days as required.
- Uses advanced Excel and SAP knowledge to provide meaningful analysis.
- CMA/CGA/CA designation required.
- Applicants may be required to take a written test/assessment or give a presentation.
- Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are desired.
- Experience performing financial analysis with advanced reporting and data analytics tools (e.g., PivotTables, Power Query, Power BI) is desired.
- Knowledge and proficiency in SAP S4/HANA system including BI reporting for data analysis and financial reporting would be beneficial.
- Knowledge and proficiency with policies, procedures, systems, budgeting and forecasting would be beneficial.
- Vacation requests during reporting cycles will be subject to review and approval by the Manager.
- Occasional travel to attend meetings; may require overnight travel to regional offices or conferences.

Flexible Work Model Role Definitions
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full‑time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in‑person time.
- IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
- Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
- Hybrid – May work from home up to 3 days per week.
- Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week.
