The Alternate Education Program Secondary Teacher uses a strength-based approach to support students experiencing social emotional and mental health related challenges. The Alternate Education Program Secondary Teacher has an inclusion mindset and uses a universal design framework and trauma sensitive approach to support student success. The Alternate Education Program Secondary Teacher provides grade-level curriculum instruction and based on the students individual strengths and stretches provides opportunities for students to develop the core competencies. Additionally this teacher collaborates with classroom teachers to ensure student access to inclusive classroom experiences and student access to learning opportunities through participation in a range of courses offered at the school.
The Alternate Education Program Secondary Teacher acts as case manager; developing and implementing education plans such as Individual Education Plans and Positive Behavior Support Plans. This teacher enables student access to prevention and intervention related supports and services as per student social emotional physical mental well-being. This teacher liaises with Learning Services personnel and outside agencies in support of students and families.
