The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, and supports healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in B.

C. The Ministry is responsible for regional and province-wide delivery of services and programs through dedicated child and family service workers that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.

Provincial Centralized Screening provides 24 / 7 child protection services across the province in order to meet the needs of children, youth and families throughout the screening process.

This position requires shift work. Current rotating shift pattern : 4 days on, 3 days off, 8.75 hours per shift. The shift patterns apply to a 24 / 7 schedule which includes Daytime, Evening and Weekend Shifts.

Provincial Centralized Screening is a hybrid work setting; however, staff must be able to work in-office on immediate notice if requested under the requirements of the Business Continuity Plan or when operationally required.

It is important that you live near your designated office to meet this requirement when needed.

This employment opportunity requires current C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA). Candidates who had C6 delegation and worked in a delegated child protection position in BC within the past 2 years are also eligible for consideration.

Job Requirements :

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements

1. Preferred Credentials :

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or Bachelor's Degree or higher in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology / Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • NOTE : If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).
  • You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered;

OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.

2. Expanded Credentials :

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree witha Major / Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate / Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • NOTE : If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).

You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

Human Services fields include : Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION :

All education credentials will be subject to verification and validation as per ministry process.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING :

Current C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA) OR Candidates who had C6 delegation and worked in a delegated child protection position in BC within the past 2 years.

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING :

  • Applicants with preferred education credentials
  • 2 or more years of current employment as a Child Protection Worker (SPO-CP 24R).
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
  • A Child Welfare Specialization from an accredited British Columbia university and who have completed their practicum in a child welfare setting.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

Proviso :

Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position :

Currently we have multiple full time permanent positions availablewith Provincial Centralized Screening.

This position can be based at any location listed above. NOTE : Provincial Centralized Screening is a hybrid work setting;

however, staff must be able to work in-office on immediate notice if requested under the requirements of the Business Continuity Plan or when operationally required.

It is important that you live near your designated office to meet this requirement when needed.

Current shift opportunities at Provincial Centralized Screening :

Rotating shift pattern : 4 days on, 3 off / 8.75 hours per shift

The shift patterns apply to a 24 / 7 schedule which alternates between Daytime, Evening and Weekend shifts. The shift patterns include Weekdays, Evening and Weekend shifts.

  • Examples of shift starting times are as follows : 6 : 00 am - 10 : 00 am, 8 : 00 am - 2 : 00 pm, 10 : 00 am - 2 : 00 pm, 1 : 00 pm - 7 : 00 pm, 2 : 00 pm - 8 : 00 pm, and 7 : 00 pm - 12 : 00 am.
  • Please note there are different shift patterns within these shift opportunities that will be worked on a rotational pattern throughout the year.

Each staff person will work a variety of shifts on rotation. Applicants must be available to work all shifts.

  • Currently full-time staff will work a compressed work week consisting of 4 shifts on, 8.75 hours each, resulting in three (3) days off a week.
  • As per the relevant collective agreement provisions on paid holidays and dependent upon schedules, staff will earn hours towards additional leave.
  • In addition, there may be opportunities for overtime or, alternatively, compensatory time off.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to three (3) days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
