The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centered care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice.

The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities.

Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.

About the Opportunity

The NS Health Learning Institute for Health Care Providers within Interprofessional Practice and Learning (IPPL) plays a leadership role within the organization in creating a culture of learning with a focus on transition to specialty practice programs, entry-level transition to practice, interprofessional practice education (IPE) and continuing professional practice development.

The Learning Institute promotes accountable professional practice in quality practice environments, facilitates patient and family centered care, fosters collaborative team relationships and supports research and evidence-based practice.

Reporting to the Manager, The Learning Institute, the Nursing Instructor I / II is responsible through assigned teaching responsibilities, for assisting with the implementation of entry-level and specialty level educational programming in accordance with the Learning Institute’s educational framework and provincial mandate.

This position promotes the advancement of professional practice within the Nova Scotia health care community. The Nursing Instructor I / II has the primary responsibility for facilitating learning according to the prescribed curriculum and works collaboratively with the Nurse Educator and Nursing Instructor IV to provide educational programming for nursing and interprofessional programs using face-to-face, simulated and online delivery methods, as well as at point of care education as a clinical instructor in the practice setting.

The Nursing Instructor I / II practices according to the Registered Nurses Act, Nova Scotia College of Nursing, and Standards of Practice of Registered Nurses.

This position will support Critical Care Nursing Program with a particular focus on blended learning.

Please note this position requires periodic travel to facilities within Nova Scotia. A valid driver’s license and access to transportation is required.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following :

  • Bachelor of Nursing / Bachelor of Science of Nursing an asset
  • Active practicing license in good standing with Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN) required
  • Certificate course or CNA certification in Critical Care required
  • Certificate course in adult education (or equivalency) preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years' recent and continuous clinical experience in Critical Care nursing required
  • Current experience with classroom, on-line and skill / simulation teaching, including low to high fidelity simulation preferred
  • Current experience with coordinating and implementing skill and simulated based teaching and assessment methods preferred
  • Previous preceptor experience required
  • BLS for Health Care Providers certification required
  • Demonstrated recent professional development relevant to maintaining currency in practice and education
  • Demonstrated ability to work with interprofessional groups of learners / employees in a variety of educational settings (e.

g. classroom, online, lab, practice setting)

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships with key partners
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with computer skills and applications including Complete Microsoft Suite; internet browsers; Learning Management Systems;

Web-based classroom and discussion boards

  • Skills and experience in promoting learning cultures that nurture equity, diversity and inclusivity with a focus on intersectional values, analysis, and actions, clinical humility, and the responsible use of power and privilege
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives

$43.57 - $54.12 hourly

$84,960 - $105,526 annually

$56.01 hourly ($109,220 annually) with 25 years' nursing experience.
