Senior Accountant

TreowGroup Recruitment, on behalf of a non-profit long-term care home in the Niagara Region, is hiring a Senior Accountant for a private, faith-based community committed to delivering exceptional care to seniors.

About the Company:
Our Client offers long-term care, supportive housing, and wellness suites designed to meet residents’ physical, social, spiritual, and emotional needs. They are currently in a building project and expanding their Accounting team.

Opportunity Overview:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant plays a key role in the organization's financial operations, supporting strategic decisions and ensuring compliance with financial standards and procedures. Within the next 2-3 years, this candidate has the opportunity to advance to the Assistant Director of Finance position. This is an on-site role in St Catharines, ON.

Your Day to Day will include:

• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll general ledger imports; ensure monthly reconciliation of all financial functions
• Perform month-end adjusting entries and reconciliations
• Generate accurate and timely monthly financial statements, including consolidated Ministry of Health reconciliations and envelope balancing
• Lead month-end and year-end closings
• Prepare audit working papers and schedules; participate in coordination and planning of the annual audit
• Prepare and manage organizational cash flows and monitor cash positions
• Assist in preparing annual budgets, collaborating with department leaders
• Support policy development and participate in financial system implementations
• Maintain and enhance internal financial controls
• Indirectly supervise and mentor team members, leading by example
• Perform other duties as assigned

• University degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related discipline
• CPA designation required
• Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in accounting
• Ontario healthcare financial reporting and business performance analysis experience is an asset
• Advanced Excel proficiency and strong experience with financial software, including reconciliation and data analysis
• Familiarity with Great Plains, Point Click Care, and payroll systems is an asset
• Experience with business automation tools and implementation is an asset
