As the Head of News, you will be instrumental in steering our omnichannel news distribution strategy by overseeing a diverse team of journalists and ensuring that news delivery is both impactful and reflective of Saskatchewan's unique dynamics.

This role requires a deep understanding of local politics, societal trends, and audience engagement strategies, emphasizing maintaining journalistic integrity and balance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Lead and mentor a team of journalists and editors across broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Develop and implement innovative content strategies that enhance audience engagement and growth across all channels.
  • Foster strong relationships with community leaders, governmental bodies, and the public to enhance news gathering and ensure comprehensive coverage.
  • Oversee editorial content to ensure it aligns with our commitment to balanced and accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and digital teams to optimize content distribution and maximize reach.
  • Utilize modern tools and distribution channels, including social media, YouTube, and other emerging platforms, to extend reach and audience engagement.
  • Manage partnerships and collaborations that enhance our content offerings and expand our audience base.
  • Monitor analytics to gauge content performance and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with journalistic standards and ethics across all platforms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge and Skills :

  • Editorial leadership and team management experience.
  • Expertise in developing and executing innovative content strategies.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills with community stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive understanding of journalistic standards and ethics.
  • Proficiency in utilizing digital platforms and analytics tools for content optimization.
  • Proven track record in driving audience engagement and growth across broadcast and digital channels.

Essential Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in news journalism or communications, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of successful team leadership and newsroom management.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Saskatchewan social, political, and business landscape and its key players.
  • Strong network of contacts in news, politics, and community affairs across Saskatchewan.
  • Exceptional editorial judgment and understanding of news ethics.
  • Proficiency in digital content strategy and audience development.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Standard Work Schedule :

Monday to Friday 8 : 30am 5 : 00pm (community interaction as necessary)
