Since 2014, the National Nursing Assessment Service has provided an online process for Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) to begin their journey to become licensed as a nurse in Canada. NNAS is a national not-for-profit serving 18 nursing Regulatory Bodies (RBs) representing three nursing professions in Canada – Licensed / Registered Practical Nurses (LPN), Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPN) – in all jurisdictions except Quebec and the Territories.

In June of 2022 NNAS launched a new Expedited Service. The Expedited Service is a fast, simple and safe credentialing process that is based on a reduced set of requirements with reports issued within five business days. NNAS also introduced an innovative approach to assessing international nursing education and prepares country specific educational assessments of international nursing curriculums to inform regulatory body decisions.

NNAS is in the final stage of its transition into a phase where it will focus on its core operations – credentialing and education assessment. It is within this exciting context that NNAS is seeking to fill a newly created role of Director, Operations .

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director directs and oversees NNAS’ credential verification and nursing education assessment operations while supporting the operation of NNAS’ application portal. As NNAS utilizes 3rd parties to verify documents, the Director will be responsible for managing the contracts associated with these vendors and ensuring excellence in the level of customer service provided to IEN applicants as well as to the RBs receiving the credentialling reports. Serving as an advisor to and providing coverage for the Executive Director as required, the Director leads a small but mighty virtual team in supporting NNAS’ core operations while identifying and leading the development of resources that will assist both applicants and regulators to maximize on their usage of NNAS’ service.

As the ideal candidate, you possess 5+ years of progressively responsible experience including at least three (3) years of team leadership experience. NNAS will benefit from your expertise in planning, operational management, budget preparation and management, risk management negotiation, contract and project management, and comfort in working in a technology-driven environment. A strategic thinker with a proven track record of identifying innovative solutions to introduce efficient operational processes that yield high quality results, ideally in the field of international credential review and / or assessment of international education, you are experienced at meeting operational and fiscal goals, and you demonstrate skill in prioritizing, delegating, leading and managing change. Customer focused, creative, solutions and action oriented are all terms peers would use to describe you. Excellent communication and relationship management skills will be key to your success in working effectively with applicants, regulators, and other interested parties. NNAS will benefit from your experience analyzing KPIs and performance metrics to inform service excellence and continuous improvement. Demonstrable knowledge of or experience working in another competitive, regulated or credentialling organization is an asset. Experience successfully leading and optimizing a geographically dispersed team working in a virtual office environment would be ideal. As well, you demonstrate a strong commitment to IDEA / EDI.
