About the Role At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we’ve been helping people in crisis since 1928. As a non-profit, we help people develop skills and knowledge, empowering our neighbours to create positive change in their lives. Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens. The Child & Youth Worker provides one-to-one and group support for children and youth from 7-15 years of age, who may experience mental, emotional or behavioural challenges. In consultation with the Program Coordinator, the Child and Youth Care Worker formulates goals, action plans and strategies together with clients and their caregivers. Through community-based recreational activities, the Child and Youth Care Worker supports clients, using coaching, modelling and supportive counselling, to develop life skills, age-appropriate independence, self-confidence and social responsibility. As Family Preservation and Reunification Services is a gated program, this position responds to referrals from the MCFD, where child protection concerns have been identified. Pension : Municipal Pension plan enrollment for eligible employees Work Hours : Hours vary depending on the needs and availability of the client. Scheduled 4-hour sessions on weekends and / or after school, on the same day each week for a minimum of 6 months (Hourly) Salary : GS7 Step 1 $24.33 per hour Location : 4103 Fraser Street at East King Edward, Vancouver, BC V5V 4E9 Posting End Date : Posting will remain open until filled What you bring : Education, Training, Experience

  • One year of post-secondary education, training in child / youth care, or a related field
  • Minimum one year experience working with children and youth with mental, emotional, behavioural challenges or those transitioning through family changes
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work with hard to reach children, youth and their families
  • Ability to identify health and safety issues for children and youth
  • Knowledge of child development, transitional themes, family dynamics
  • Ability to maintain a client’s safety in the community
  • Competency in maintaining confidential relevant documentation
  • Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of criminal record check
  • Emergency First Aid is mandatory
  • Driver’s License
  • Successful completion of criminal record check
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination status will be required
