Job Description
The Director of Retail Cafés is an important member of the company’s senior leadership team, responsible for ensuring high standards in customer service, operational efficiency, team leadership, and coffee & food quality. This leader’s key focus areas will be leading a high performing customer-focused team, ensuring exceptional quality coffee and food, implementing training, tools & technology, and delivering strong operational & financial KPIs. A successful candidate will have exceptional leadership and communication skills, have a proven track record of leading muti-site operations, and be results-oriented with strong execution capabilities.
This position will serve as a role model, both internally and externally, and will exemplify the company’s culture and values. The position will be based in Vancouver, B.C.
Primary Responsibilities
Exceptional Quality & Experience in Cafés
- Ensure 49th Parallel exceptional customer service is being executed in all cafés
- Oversee effective & efficient operations in cafés focused on customers, ensure health & safety programs are executed
- Assess café menu to meet needs of customers, lead recommendations on modifications
- Create work policies and best practices / SOPs for all café positions
- Identify and oversee roll-out seasonal / new product innovation including recipe development, testing and training
- Identify opportunities to improve in café experience including merchandising & signage
- Collaborate with marketing team to ensure successful program ideas and execution
People Management, Training & Development
Manage café management team (CLT) members, create ongoing development plans for CLT and build succession plansBuild and lead a positive culture and embed company values, helping employees to bring values to life; address and cultural or behavioural issues as they ariseBuild / oversee and manage café hiring programs in collaboration with people & cultureOversee 49th training programsDevelop and train simple and repeatable methods for café staff to maintain / improve quality productLead performance management program for management staffCafé Performance & Operations
Develop plans to grow same café revenue and profit while maintaining exceptional quality & experience, implement initiatives to achieve all financial targets and performance goalsManage and analyze financial KPIs and controls for all areas of the restaurant and determine business prioritiesBuild annual budget and reforecasts for cafésComplete regular COGs and pricing reviews, maintain strong relationships with vendorsOversee and ensure maintenance and cleanliness of propertyOversee management Point-of-Sale system updates and changes, as requiredAnalyze and test new business tools and software to help streamline operationsTest new equipment for ability to deliver to 49th quality standardExternal Focus
Meet with potential partners to discuss special promotions / eventsAssess potential supply partners for café food and beverage offeringsMaintain an up-to-date knowledge of the specialty coffee market, locally and globallyDevelop strategies to compete and retain relevance and competitive edge within the marketBuild and retain relationships with suppliers, consumers, customers and professional associationsKnowledge & Skills
Passionate about specialty coffee, experience in coffee an assetExceptional leadership and communication skills, inspirational leader who manages team effectively to deliver goalsProven track record of leading a customer focused, multi-site hospitality businessResults-oriented with strong execution capabilitiesAbility to prioritize multiple projects and drive key priorities to completionStrong, agile problem solver, ability to analyze performance data and execute strategies to improve efficiency and profitabilityAbility to build strong relationships with peers and team membersGood knowledge of computer skills – powerpoint, excel, wordHave a vehicle and able to travel to all café locations
