Our client is sourcing for an Accounting Supervisor for a 15-month Contract.
About the Opportunity
Responsible for ensuring month-end timelines are met, reviewing and approving journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations and following up on discrepancies to ensure appropriate investigation and effort has been taken to address reconciling items
Ensures accounting and financial reporting, both internally and externally, adhere to Public Sector Accounting Standards and MIS guidelines
Coordinates the external audit, including small program audits
Supervises the preparation of annual and semi-annual reporting in compliance with the Broader Public Sector Act
Ensures timely and accurate preparation of the remittances and tax related issues (i.e. HST, etc.)
Supervise the accounts payable activities, e.g. accounting, recording and payment sub-processes
Reviews weekly payment-run (i.e. review of cheques and invoices with supporting documentation)
Reviews vendor reconciliations, ensuring timely follow up of discrepancies
Supervises daily operations of the accounts receivable functions, monitoring controls ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness of revenue recognition, the collection of associated receivables and the safeguard of cash
Responsible for monitoring monthly accounts payable / receivable KPIs, assessing areas for improvement, providing staff with the necessary support and guidance to see through changes
Maintains a strong control environment, ensuring financial service functions and policies are in accordance with best practices, Public Sector Accounting Standards, and other legislative requirements
Builds and maintains strong relationships with departments, offering support while ensuring adherence to internal policies and maintaining compliance with financial controls
About You
Professional Accounting Designation required (Chartered Professional Accountant preferred)
Undergraduate degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related discipline
At least five years’ experience in financial accounting, preferably in a public sector setting
Previous experience as a team lead or supervisor an asset
Knowledge of operations, funding formula and reporting requirements
Ability to supervise, delegate and motivate team members to continuously improve
Ability to interact with all levels within organization, including external stakeholders
Excellent communication skills (written, presentation, oral) in an open, direct, clear and persuasive manner. Strong active listening skill
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail
Ability to determine solutions in addition to recognizing problems
Intermediate computer proficiency in Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint with an aptitude for learning new computer applications
