Job Summary
The Officer, Materials Procurement is responsible for ordering, coordinating delivery, and charging, as well as issuing Engineering material for basic and special capital programs. The position reports to the IC Manager, Operations. The incumbent works closely with Supply Management, Suppliers, Engineering Supervisors and Managers, Rail Yard, and other Material Officers.
Main Responsibilities
Procurement
- Create reservations and requisitions for track material in Systems, Applications and Products (SAP)
- Compile material requirements and forecasts from multiple Engineering Managers and systems
- Prioritize shipping sequences to meet program schedules
- Track material flow through all stages, including requisition, order, shipment, delivery, and installation
- Intervene as required to ensure smooth material flow and escalate if necessary
- Maintain material tracking system Engineering Capital Planning System (ECPS) and dwell system
Fleet Management
Manage rail car fleet for multiple commodities, including scrap rail and partly worn tie platesIntervene as required to ensure smooth material flow and escalate, if necessaryMaintain material tracking system and dwell systemMaterial Audits
Monitor material charge outsCoordinate with Supply Management and Engineering Budget Officers, as well as Project Managers to ensure proper charge out of materialBill and divert the Company’s service rail carsTrace rail cars to ensure prompt unloading of materialMaterial Movement Coordination
Cover other Coordinator positions during vacations and absencesEngage and assist in times of accidents and storms to protect the system’s integrityPerform other duties as assignedWorking Conditions
The role has standard working conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Additionally, the position is required to work during business hours, at different time zones, for the respective territory or region. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role may require minimal travel (5%) from the United States to Canada.
