Stopping the Violence Outreach Worker

Job Summary :

Supporting adults identifying as female and their dependent children who have experienced or are at risk of intimate partner abuse, threats, or violence. The current position is for 25hrs / week.

Reports to : Clinical Supervisor

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provide supportive brief interventions individually or in groups for clients who have experienced violence, abuse, or threats.
  • Provide follow-up and support for family law cases.
  • Provide educational opportunities, resource materials and referrals to clients who have experienced violence.
  • Connect persons with existing services and resources that will promote safety and independence.
  • Facilitate client (individual or group) training in violence prevention, problem-solving, communication, risk reduction and safety planning.
  • Provide legal and resource information, crisis intervention, support and accompaniment to lawyers, MCFD where applicable, appointments and Family Court.
  • Maintain current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence.
  • Conduct culturally appropriate presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues.
  • Assist clients with transportation and related activities.
  • Maintain related records and statistics and produces reports as required.

Education, Training and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong assessment, crisis intervention, and communication skills.
  • Experience in the helping professions is essential.
  • Job Skills and Abilities :

  • Crisis intervention.
  • Awareness and analysis of oppression.
  • Excellent oral, written and computer skills.
  • Sensitive and responsive to cultural and gender differences in the client population.
  • Conviction of the capacity of people to change and grow.
  • Ability to develop a mutually respectful partnership with persons served.
  • Well-developed knowledge of community resources.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively with service providers in the community.
