DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Manager, Sustainability and Wildfire Mitigation, the Senior Meteorologist will lead the development and implementation of FortisAlberta’s meteorological processes and requirements. This role will drive the integration of meteorological expertise into operational decision‐making and wildfire mitigation strategies. The Senior Meteorologist will implement policy, represent the organization in key forums, and manage critical weather intelligence that supports safe, reliable and sustainable electricity delivery. This position will build and manage relationships with internal and external resources and play a pivotal role in shaping how weather‐related risks are managed across the organization.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the creation and continuous improvement of meteorological processes, tools, and protocols that support wildfire mitigation and operational readiness.
- Drive the development of weather forecasting capabilities and decision‑support tools that enhance situational awareness for operations and control centre teams.
- Interpret and communicate real‑time and forecasted weather data to support operational decisions during storms and elevated wildfire risk conditions.
- Deploy and optimise weather station infrastructure to support wildfire risk modelling and mitigation.
- Influence the design and execution of Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) protocols, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
- Represent FortisAlberta on provincial wildfire committees, the internal Climate Adaptation Committee, and other strategic working groups.
- Create and maintain a framework for analysing historical weather data to inform long‑term wildfire mitigation planning and investment prioritisation.
- Support workforce planning matters by providing meteorological insights that impact operational staffing and emergency response.
- Contribute to regulatory filings, corporate business plans, and emergency response strategies with meteorological expertise.
- Communicate complex meteorological information clearly to internal stakeholders, including control centre operators, customer service teams, and senior leadership.
- Transform or enhance currentնն processes by resources meteorological intelligence into operational workflows and decision‑making processes.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Advanced knowledge of wildfire weather dynamics, forecasting techniques, and meteorological modelling.Proven ability to influence cross‑functional teams and lead initiatives that integrate technical expertise into business operations.Proven communication skills with the ability to translate complex meteorological data into actionable insights for non‑technical audiences.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure.Experience with stakeholder engagement, including ownership over customer relationships and representation in external forums.Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with SAP and data visualization tools is an asset.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Degree in ' / / ...??
