Position : Facilitator and Resource Developer

Location : Sudbury

Reports To : Team Supervisor, Training and Resource Development

Term : Full-time, Permanent

Salary Range : $56,531-$60,000 annual + benefits

Anticipated Start Date : March 2026

Context : The Ontario Aboriginal HIV / AIDS Strategy (Oahas) is an Indigenous-led organization committed to promoting healthy, thriving Indigenous communities through culturally grounded education and harm reduction to reduce HIV and other STBBIs. Oahas operates on the principles of GIPA, MEPA, “nothing about us without us”, Indigenous harm reduction, and respect for cultural knowledges and teachings.

Summary : The Facilitator and Resource Developer collaborates with the Training and Resource Development team to lead capacity-building workshops and professional development sessions for external organizations, focusing mainly on the ASO and Indigenous health and social services sectors. They create and implement educational resources and materials to minimize barriers to services, enhance cultural competency, reduce stigma, and raise awareness about the impacts of colonialism on Indigenous communities, especially through blood-borne infections and drug policy impacts.

This position is located in Sudbury, Ontario, and reports to the Team Supervisor, Training and Resource Development Team, with key responsibilities including Community Development & Networking; Facilitation & Education Service Delivery; Resource Development, Distribution & Implementation; and Research & Program Evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

Community Development & Networking

  • Attend provincially funded meetings for HIV educators (OAN, CATIE and other sector education networks).
  • Develop contacts and networks to procure new clients for Oahas training services.
  • Create marketing materials including print and social media content to promote workshops, training, courses, events or programs to potential clients.

Facilitation & Education Service Delivery

  • Create an empowering environment that celebrates Indigenous peoples living with HIV (IPHAs), Indigenous people with HepC, Indigenous people who use drugs, and Two-Spirit / Indigiqueer and Indigenous LGBT+ folx.
  • Create and facilitate workshop and training activities grounded in Indigenous epistemologies and pedagogies.
  • Deliver education sessions to local agencies and groups serving Indigenous people to increase capacity for culturally grounded harm reduction and reduce HIV stigma.
  • Maintain training materials reflecting evolving needs, updating / creating materials based on sector and community trends.
  • Identify internal training and development needs, create new initiatives or improve existing programs, and deliver capacity-building training to Oahas staff and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Oahas management, staff and community groups to develop educational initiatives and learning products that strengthen programs and services.
  • Resource Development, Distribution & Implementation

  • Develop and implement educational resources and campaigns with focus on adapting content and visuals for an Indigenous audience and harm reduction principles.
  • Develop materials, trainings and presentations on Indigenous Harm Reduction and HIV-related issues, including safer sex, safer drug use, and HIV prevention strategies.
  • Adapt materials to online formats; support integration of trainings into an e-learning platform as needed.
  • Collaborate with Oahas teams to understand resource needs for program delivery and support material development.
  • Collaborate on content updates and communications for Oahas’ website and social channels.
  • Research & Program Evaluation

  • Access up-to-date local research and culturally grounded resources to inform content of trainings and workshops.
  • Create, assess and refine adult education models, ensuring objectives are met and participant needs are addressed.
  • Identify learning goals and outcomes, establish assessment standards to evaluate education products and services.
  • Support the development of agency-wide internal standards for training, including auditing existing training.
  • Identify revenue opportunities by researching new markets and developing products or services aligned with organizational goals.
  • Administrative & General Duties
  • Collaborate with the Training & Resource Development Team to maintain active communication for smooth workflow.
  • Participate on Oahas teams and external committees to share information, resolve problems and support organizational training goals.
  • Collaborate with Gilbert Centre to onboard participants into the Safer Spaces for Two-Spirit People course on Kajabi and issue completion certificates.
  • Design and issue other training certificates as needed.
  • Ongoing program reporting, data collection, file maintenance and records management, including OCHART entries.
  • Engage in program planning through a workplan and ensure ongoing compliance with Oahas policies.
  • May be required to assist with projects and other agency initiatives.
  • Additional Expectations

  • Flexibility with schedule; occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Share in care and responsibility for Traditional Medicines and related protocols.
  • Travel throughout the province will be required with advance notice.
  • Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing and delivering adult education and training.
  • Ability to assess participant needs and accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Competency and understanding of Indigenous cultures, teachings and history.
  • Thorough understanding of HIV, AIDS, safer sex, and Indigenous harm reduction principles.
  • Diploma or degree in a related field preferred; combination of experience and education considered; preferred qualification in adult education or Indigenous pedagogies.
  • Lived Experience working with people living with HIV, people who use drugs, and Indigenous communities.
  • Ability to discuss substance use and sexuality openly with service providers and clients in a non-judgmental, sex-positive manner.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Ability to work outside regular hours; travel across the province may be required, including evenings / weekends.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language is an asset.
  • Skills

  • Instructional Design : designing and facilitating accessible workshops and training for diverse learning styles.
  • Familiarity with impact measurement and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with video editing software and techniques.
  • Trust-building, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Precision and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with computer technology : Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and Canva.
  • Strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem solving, conflict management, critical thinking, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities to meet deadlines.
