Clinical Coordinator, Oncology Nutrition

The Clinical Coordinator, Oncology Nutrition, in consultation with the Provincial Director, Nutrition, and the Regional Cancer Centre Administrator provides leadership in the development of evidence-based practice in Oncology Nutrition, is involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical services delivered by the Regional Cancer Centre’s Nutrition Services Program and provides clinical direction and evaluation of assigned staff. Performs clinical, educational, community development, research, and administrative duties.

What you’ll do

  • Provide clinical supervision and consultation for Oncology Nutrition Services staff at the Regional Cancer Centre.
  • Review workload assignments and adjusts schedules according to demands to ensure that staff levels meet operational requirements.
  • Evaluates staff performance.
  • Recruit staff through methods such as identifying vacancies, processing required internal paperwork, interviewing applicants and making recommendations to the Provincial Director, Nutrition, for selection to maintain approved staff complement.
  • Collaborate with the Provincial Director, Nutrition, to develop and monitor the budget for Regional Cancer Centre’s Oncology Nutrition Services.
  • Develop, implement and evaluates goals and objectives for the area in conjunction with the Provincial Director, Nutrition, and the Regional Cancer Centre Administrator.
  • Collaborate with other Regional Clinical Coordinators, and Nutrition colleagues in the development, implementation, and communication of evidence-based provincial Oncology Nutrition practice standards, guidelines, and procedures; screening, assessment and treatment tools and techniques, and to develop and revise programs and resources for patients and families.
  • Triage and provide nutritional care for patients and their families as assigned.

What you bring

Qualifications:

  • Master degree in Nutrition or in a related area from an accredited university.
  • Current full registration as a Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
  • Five years’ clinical nutrition practice with experience in an oncology setting including a minimum of one year of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within healthcare settings. This involves recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Cancer contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study, BC Human Rights Code, Anti-racism Data Act and how they intersect across the health care system.

Core Competencies:

  • Brings an understanding of the Indigenous specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure, and has demonstrated initiatives in breaking down barriers and ensuring a safe environment ensuring a sense of belonging to all and informed by Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Awareness of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (the Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

  • Ability to work as a team member, motivator and facilitator.
  • Leadership skills including the ability to accept responsibility, prioritize tasks and make decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multidisciplinary team with all levels of Centre staff, patients, the public and external health professionals.
  • Proficiency in the transfer of nutrition evidence based practice to community providers of nutritional care.
  • Experience and competency in program evaluation and research methods in nutritional care services.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment such as a personal computer and related software programs.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to beginning and continuing their personal learning journey related to Indigenous-specific racism and dismantling systems of oppression, as well as addressing racism more broadly. Shows willingness to articulate and share their learning experiences to contribute to a culture of motivation and inspiration among peers.
  • Knowledge of the social, economic, and political realities of settler-colonialism and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and equity-deserving groups within social and health contexts. Understands the impact of social determinants of health-on-health outcomes. Shows a commitment to learning about and upholding legislative obligations and provincial commitments outlined in foundational documents such as the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study, the BC Human Rights Code, Anti-Racism Data Act, and the Distinctions Based Approach
