Robert Half is currently working with a client whose name is synonymous with Vancouver Real Estate. This highly successful, privately held organization continues to grow and diversify; influencing the skylines of major cities across Canada and into the US. Starting as a land developer, this organization has grown to include development, construction, investment management / income producing properties, and hospitality. Given the complexity of the organization, the time has come to bring additional tax expertise in-house.

Working closely with the finance senior leadership team, as the Tax Manager you will help develop, manage, and execute on tax strategies. Your day-to-day of the role will include compliance, planning, structuring, transactions, and some trust & estate taxation. As the Tax manager some of your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to :

  • Oversee and coordinate the corporate tax planning with direction from senior management
  • Assist the organizations Principals with shareholder matters including succession and estate planning
  • Make recommendations on tax strategies
  • Identify areas for process improvement
  • Communicate complex tax policies and plans in relatable terms to the Senior Leadership team and owners
  • Oversee and execute on tax compliance including corporate tax returns, trust returns, partnership returns, foreign reporting, and personal returns as necessary
  • Working with external stakeholders (tax advisors and the CRA)

Job Requirements :

As the ideal candidate you have a solid understanding of Canadian taxation as it relates to corporations and its impact on the business’ shareholders. You are able to communicate effectively across teams and communicate complex information in a meaningful way. You are an analytical, yet creative problem solver who understands the nuance of the Tax Act and how to apply it. You are a self-starter who works effectively both independently and as part of a team. And, most importantly, you bring a positive attitude and want to contribute to building corporate culture. Additionally, it would be great if you checked the following boxes :

  • CPA designated or a Master of Taxation
  • Completion of / or pursuing the In-depth tax program
  • Experience with partnership taxation or taxation issues specific to real estate
  • Some familiarity with cross-border tax compliance
