Position : Summer Student CounsellorsHours of Work : Part Time Hours, Effective June 27 - August 31, 2025Rate of Pay : $42.90 / hourUnion Affiliation : Non UnionLOCATIONSioux / Ignace POSITION SUMMARY Summer Student counsellors’ priorities involves direct service to students, including one on one sessions and classroom presentations, done face to face and / or virtually. The Student Counsellor provides direct mental health and wellness support to students across the Board using a tiered approach. This includes individual and group interventions, mental health promotion, crisis intervention, and attendance support. This also includes collaboration with students, parents / guardians, and school staff to create strategies that address students’ mental health needs. The position addresses both mental health and attendance referrals, specifically for students with 15 consecutive days of absence. Supervision is provided under the direction of the Board’s Mental Health Lead. Interventions may include brief therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), general coping skills, social skills and Indigenous ways of knowing and healing.QUALIFICATIONSDegree in Social Work and registration with the Ontario College of Social Service Workers and a minimum of 1 year of related experience. Must have a good understanding of the issues faced by students. Good interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
