The Role : As an Emergency Psychiatric Registered Nurse, you will provide specialized psychiatric care in a fast-paced, high-pressure emergency department environment. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients presenting with acute mental health conditions or psychiatric emergencies. Your role will involve working closely with the emergency medical team and mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive psychiatric care for patients in crisis.
Responsibilities :
- Conduct rapid psychiatric assessments to determine the urgency and severity of mental health crises in patients within the emergency room.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by mental health providers or physicians, ensuring prompt and accurate delivery.
- Monitor and document patient responses, mental status changes, and vital signs, ensuring thorough and accurate record-keeping.
- Collaborate with the emergency healthcare team and mental health professionals to develop and implement care plans for patients with psychiatric or behavioral health issues.
- Provide clear communication and support to patients and their families, offering information on psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions, ensuring sensitivity and compassion.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, adhering to safety protocols and managing patients in psychiatric crises, including de-escalation techniques when necessary.
Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent.Current, unrestricted RN license in your province.Minimum 2 years of Canadian nursing experience, preferably in emergency or psychiatric settings.BLS and ACLS certifications.Strong knowledge of mental health care, psychiatric conditions, and emergency treatment protocols.Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and crisis management skills.Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.Please note that we are exclusively recruiting people who can legally work in Canada.
