Salary Range: $75,000.00 To $112,500.00 Annually

Join the Ta na wa Shéway I7x̱w ta Úxwumixw (Planning and Capital Projects) Department, The Planner works with the Planning Manager to create and carry out plans for Squamish Nation lands. This role focuses on listening to community members, gathering information, and turning ideas into action. The Planner helps with land use, housing, social priorities, and regional projects. They also lead community engagement, making sure people’s voices guide decisions.

This job requires professionalism, respect, and teamwork. The Planner will share information clearly, support community dialogue, and help staff bring plans to life.

What You’ll Do

  • Support projects in land use, housing, social, and regional planning.
  • Create communication tools to keep the community informed and involved.
  • Prepare reports and updates for leadership and Council.
  • Organize and lead community meetings and staff engagement activities.
  • Build strong relationships with community members and colleagues.
  • Keep communication consistent and up to date.
  • Gather and analyze information to make recommendations.
  • Help review and update policies and plans.
  • Support the implementation and evaluation of existing plans.
  • Follow workplace health and safety practices.
  • Work collaboratively with the Planning and Capital Projects team.
  • Take on other duties as needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Planning, Community Development, or First Nations Studies preferred (or equivalent experience) but not required.
  • Experience in planning, community engagement, or related work.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of BC First Nations planning. Knowledge of Squamish Nation history and context is an asset.
  • Experience supporting traditional ceremonies and cultural practices is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Squamish Nation, Squamish language (Skwxwú7mesh Snichim), and First Nations governance is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, Boards, or government organizations is an asset.
  • Cultural humility and respect for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh values, sovereignty, and self-determination.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of, and strong connection to, the Squamish community.
