Mechanical Engineering Intern

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, at our Peterborough, Burlington, or Kitchner, Ontario facility, you will work onsite on a variety of technical and engineering assignments including design, drafting, and implementation of electrical, instrumentation and controls projects (Capital, Expense, Development) under the guidance of engineers. Starting May 2026 for a duration of 4, 8, 12 or 16 months.

Main Responsibilities:

• Develop 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials for complex electro-mechanical first of a kind tooling
• Assembly and testing of custom equipment through the design evolution from prototype to finished product
• Assist with the development of test procedures for systems to ensure compliance with design specifications
• Assist with the operation of the final tooling system in the customer facilities
• Performing both classical hand calculations and analysis (including FEA) to qualify systems and/or components against applicable codes & standards
• Preparing clear and concise design reports and technical specifications.
• Driving innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems
• Collaborating globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists
• Supporting resolution of issues throughout design, manufacture and testing of systems and/or components

Qualifications:

• Enrolled in 2nd year or recent graduate of an Mechanical engineering program at a university with a minimum GPA of 75%
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent problem solving and time management skills
• Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and knowledge
• Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware and software
• Self-motivated and highly organized
• Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or similar software
• A background with practical skills developed through jobs, school teams or personal interest are highly valued.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The hourly pay range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $ per hour.
