Ministry Overview

Athletes in Action (a division of Power To Change) is a ministry that seeks to help people know Jesus and experience his power to change the world through sport. We believe that Jesus transforms lives, sport influences culture and the world. Therefore we envision a world transformed by the gospel through sport. Athletes in Action (AIA) is a team on mission who lives out three Core Values: We are passionately committed, live in an authentic community, and we play together.

Position Overview

AIA Youth Initiative coaches act as individual coaches or are part of coaching teams that travel to communities within their region, with a heart for developing total athletes (athletically, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually). Each opportunity focuses on using sport to help churches and local partners reach their community. Coaches will engage with youth athletes who have a variety of skills and abilities, from beginner to experienced, providing programming in a variety of sports (soccer, basketball, volleyball and athletic development). Coaches will be expected to engage in the process of combating negative views of sport culture with the gospel, while inspiring partners to reach their local community through sport.

In this role you will be responsible to achieve the following:

  • Introduce not yet believers to the gospel and provide opportunities for current believers to grow in spiritual maturity
  • Coaches will be expected to help present AIA’s More Than a Game talks as well as lead small group discussions with participating athletes.
  • Motivate, encourage and inspire volunteers and athletes to share their faith with friends, family, teammates and coaches.
  • Help fight negative views of sport by sharing the gospel and coaching with the goal of transformation.
  • Facilitate a sport experience that is first class.
  • Attend coach’s training, camp meetings and orientations.
  • Work closely with a coaching team, volunteers and additional AIA staff to ensure roles and responsibilities are accomplished.
  • Apply age and skill appropriate teaching techniques for sport specific skills and physical literacy.
  • Network and build relationships with key influencers in the sports community.
  • Communicate the stories and experiences of camp with the Regional Director

Education & Experience:

  • You have varsity/post secondary sports involvement (preferred, not required)
  • You have previous coaching experience (preferred, not required)

About You:

  • You have a deep and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and desire to grow as a leader
  • You would be committed to Athletes in Actions’ leadership methods and ministry models
  • You have the ability to understand and implement coaching tools and strategies to promote skill development in athletes
  • You have the ability to create a safe, fun and exciting learning environment
  • You have the ability to work well within the structure of a team
  • You have an understanding of and passion for the athletic world
  • You have a heart for evangelism and the ability to communicate the gospel clearly
  • You have good time management, an ability to be flexible and willingness to take initiative
  • You have the ability to communicate effectively with small and large groups

We thank all applicants for their interest in Power to Change; however, only suitable candidates will be contacted to continue the application process. In accordance with our mission statement to spread the gospel, everyone who applies to be involved will be required to sign and adhere to the Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct.
