About the opportunity :
The Quality Assurance Technician handles all aspects of quality and food safety for both our ingredient distribution and dry blend manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate is an exceptionally organized and methodical professional with experience managing a quality management program in the food industry. The Quality Assurance Technician will coordinate and follow the fundamentals of HACCP, GMP and SQF and provide guidance and support to plant colleagues. The successful candidate will ensure products meet the food safety and quality standards of the company and our customers. Initiative, competence and proactivity are critical to success in this role.
Responsibilities :
Quality Management Program
- Maintain SQF Quality Management Program for dry-blending facility
- Coordinate with certifying agency to ensure ongoing compliance and annual audits
- Perform daily, weekly and monthly quality and maintenance checks in production facility and warehouse
- Perform quality checks to ensure traceability of raw materials and final products during production
- Review completed production paperwork daily for accuracy
- Responsible for retained sample collection, labelling and storage
- Oversee cleaning, sanitation and environmental monitoring program and ensure swabbing is performed and documented
- Document quality assurance activities with internal reporting and audits; coordinate monthly food safety and quality assurance meetings with production and management
- Communicate and train Think colleagues on new procedures for SQF
- Plan, execute, and oversee inspection and testing of incoming and outgoing products to confirm quality conformance to specifications and quality deliverables
- Assist operations team in ensuring quality, health and safety objectives are met
- Oversee company complaint and inspection procedures; execute CAPA report including root cause investigation, initiating corrective and preventative actions
- Ongoing determination of requirements for Safe Food for Canadians license
Documentation
Create and update Think product specifications using standard templateReview incoming C of A’s for compliance and generate Think C of A’sSupport sales team with requested documentationEnsure documentation is updated and new certificates (i.e. GFSI, Kosher, Halal, etc.) are sent to current customers; establish online system for storing and managing quality documentationComplete customers’ supplier questionnaires and / or collaborate with suppliers to have them completedUpdate and maintain Supplier Approval Program including contacting supplier to provide documents, reviewing provided documentsNew Product Regulatory
Review supplier documentation for new and existing products and ensure products meet Canadian regulatory requirements, together with Product Developer and / or third-party regulatory consultation as neededEnsure ongoing compliance with updated documents and certificatesQualifications :
Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, or Chemistry or relevant experience in the food industry is preferredMinimum 2-3 years of related experienceProficient computer skills including experience in MS Outlook & Excel.
