Mechanical Engineer Transmission Line Monitoring Systems
Location : Kelowna, BC (Hybrid)
Type : Full-time
Summary
We build rugged, sensor-driven systems that operate where failure is not an option, on high-voltage transmission infrastructure. Our devices integrate acoustic, RF, and environmental sensors to detect subtle electrical phenomena long before they become faults.
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to drive the design and execution of compact electromechanical systems, from early prototypes through validation and production, in close partnership with electrical, firmware, and field engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electromechanical components and assemblies with careful consideration for sensor placement, environmental sealing, structural integrity, and long-term field reliability
- Produce high-quality CAD models, detailed drawings, and technical documentation, including GD&T where appropriate, suitable for both prototyping and production
- Build, evaluate, and iterate mechanical prototypes to validate functional performance, manufacturability, and durability under representative operating conditions
- Support test planning and execution across laboratory and field environments; analyze results, identify root causes, and implement corrective design actions
- Apply first-principles engineering and design-for- manufacturing / assembly (DFM / DFA) practices to balance performance, cost, reliability, and scalability
- Participate in field deployments and on-site evaluations to observe real-world mechanical behavior, installation constraints, and environmental interactions, and translate those insights into design improvements
- Work closely with electrical and firmware engineering teams to resolve integration, tolerance, and packaging challenges across the system
- Maintain well-organized design data, revisions, and design review materials, supporting traceability and informed engineering decision-making
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent3+ years of experience in electromechanical product development with a track record of delivering executed designsDemonstrated ability to transition designs through prototype, test, and refinement cyclesProficiency with SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD) and core mechanical engineering principlesExperience with detailed part and assembly design, GD&T, and documentation for manufacturingPreferred Qualifications
Advanced degrees preferredExperience designing mechanical systems that enable and preserve sensor performance, including considerations for acoustics, vibration, RF, and environmental sensing through thoughtful packaging, isolation, and material choicesExperience with outdoor or industrial products, environmental sealing and ruggedized enclosuresWorking knowledge of analysis tools (e.g., simple FEA or equivalent) to support engineering decisionsExposure to volume production and DFM supportCompensation & Benefits
Base salary range CAD $90,000 $110,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.Flexible Working Hours5 Weeks Vacation plus Christmas shut down. Why Join Us
Youll work on technically demanding systems deployed directly on critical electrical infrastructure, where engineering decisions have real-world consequences. Our products help modernize the grid, improve system reliability, and support early detection of electrical faults that can lead to outages and wildfires. This role offers the opportunity to see your work move quickly from design and test into field deployment, closing the loop between engineering intent and real-world performance. Youll work closely with senior technical leadership in an environment that values first-principles thinking, disciplined execution, and thoughtful iteration, and where strong engineering directly contributes to safer, more resilient critical infrastructure.
