West Vancouver Transit has an immediate opening for a permanent full‑time Transit Mechanic Apprentice. This is mechanical work at the apprentice level. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position will be responsible for performing mechanical overhaul, repair, and maintenance tasks on transit vehicles in the shop or in the field, completing a variety of complex mechanical assessments; diagnosing various electronic components by performing diagnostic testing and troubleshooting using relevant computer software; submitting reports and maintaining records; performing a variety of gas and electrical welding tasks; and other related work as required.

The successful candidate will possess or have the ability to obtain and retain :

• Registration as a Truck and Transport Mechanic with SkilledTradesBC
• A Red Seal Certificate of Qualification as a Truck and Transport Mechanic on completion of the apprenticeship program
• Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate with air brake endorsement
• Class 2 or 3 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement

Additional requirements for this position include a minimum of one year of relevant experience demonstrated by completion of Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation; current knowledge of diesel engine and transmission electronic control systems; possession of own hand tools; air conditioning courses; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates currently in their 4th apprenticeship may be considered. Red Seal qualification as an Automotive Service Technician is an asset.

Position Status : Union (ATU) – Permanent, Full-time

Hours of Work : 40 hours per week. 4 days on / 3 consecutive days off (consistent workweek and schedule)

Rate of Pay : $39.17 per hour-Red Seal Rate; plus tool allowance; (plus : $1.95 / hr shift differential for afternoon shifts and Sunday pay premiums and a retention allowance)
