About Us

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated / integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.

The IUIH Network Knowledge and Research Center is currently in the process of establishment within IUIH, under the auspices of the IUIH Network through its Data and Research Governance Committee, a subcommittee of the IUIH Network CEO Forum.

The purpose of the Centre is to drive a comprehensive and collective program of community owned and led urban Indigenous health and related research, ultimately contributing to the vision for healthy and strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities.

About the Role

The position of the Director - IUIH Network Knowledge and Research Centre has been established to provide operational leadership in the establishment, development, consolidation, expansion and continuous improvement of the Centre, under the guidance and governance of the IUIH Network.

Day to Day Duties Include :

  • Provide representation on behalf of IUIH and the IUIH Network in academic, policy, and research forums, advocating for the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and connecting research to contemporary policy and practice.
  • Foster close, collaborative working relationships with other leaders and teams across the IUIH Network to promote the integration of research findings into policy and practice.
  • Oversee the implementation and delivery of the IUIH Network Research Agenda in alignment with identified community aspirations, goals, priorities and needs.
  • Lead the collaborative development of research proposals and secure funding to support research that aligns with and advances the IUIH Network research agenda.
  • Build, lead and manage a diverse team of interdisciplinary staff promoting shared purpose, collegiality and a sense of belonging within and across organisation boundaries.
  • Oversee the IUIH Network research portfolio, ensuring that research projects are managed in keeping with The Ways, on time and within allocated resources.

About You

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health services, embracing the principles and practice of community control.
  • Demonstrated leadership driving a philosophy, culture and practice of integrity, openness, continuous reflection and system improvement with significant experience in workforce development in health research.
  • A PhD or equivalent in relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior research leadership role in a health-related field with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing.
  • Current Criminal History Check.
  • Desirable, but not mandatory :

  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and / or communities.
