Victoria

The Family Practice Postgraduate Program at the Victoria training site is seeking a physician trained in Family Practice to join the team in the area of Faculty Development.

The Victoria site is one of the largest family practice postgraduate training sites in British Columbia. The site has both international and Canadian medical graduates.

In addition to working in two large and busy tertiary care hospitals in Victoria, residents train in community hospitals and ambulatory settings in the surrounding area.

Applicants must be eligible for B.C. medical licensure and will require a Clinical Faculty appointment through the Department of Family Practice.

They must be a Certificant of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Experience in medical education leadership and administration is desired.

The incumbent will report to the Site Director and will work closely with other Site Faculty and the Faculty Development Portfolio Director.

The lead for Faculty Development :

  • Is responsible for organizing the professional development of Family Practice preceptors in the areas of resident teaching and education
  • Will assist the Faculty Development Portfolio Director in providing program wide workshops for clinical faculty
  • Will actively support Family Practice preceptors in accessing resources and delivering educational objectives in teaching
  • Will act as a resource for the local faculty
  • Will attend and participate in the Site Resident Training Committee meetings and other relevant site functions as required.
  • Will participate in program-wide and departmental initiatives of the UBC Department of Family Practice
  • Will be actively involved in resident selection
  • May be required to travel to attend meetings / retreats.

The Faculty Development role will require approximately 6 hours per week or 0.15FTE. The appointment is for a one year term, renewable upon review.

This position start date is July 1, 2021.

Responsible for Faculty Development within the training site

Together with the Site Directors, Portfolio Directors and other Site Faculty, the Site Faculty for Faculty Development form a "matrix" leadership model for the Residency Program.

Responsibilities include :

Overall professional development of Family Practice preceptors in the areas of resident teaching and education in Victoria

Assisting the Faculty Development Portfolio Director in providing program wide workshops for clinical faculty

Developing faculty development resources and delivers content through various modalities

Ensuring preceptors have access to resources to meet the educational objectives in teaching

Acting as a resource for the local faculty

Attending and participating in the Site Resident Training Committee meetings and other relevant site functions as required.

Participating in program-wide and departmental initiatives of the UBC Department of Family Practice

Participating in resident selection and recruitment activities

To work closely with other site faculty to ensure that the faculty development activities are structured to provide support for the areas of evaluation, curriculum and research

To develop strategies to retain and increase the number of preceptors

The incumbent will report to the Site Director.

Qualifications :

Membership and certificant of the College of Family Physicians of Canada

Eligible for licensure in B.C.

Eligible for Clinical Faculty Appointment through UBC

Educational and administrative experience is required

Demonstrated ability in teaching and working with residents
