About the CompanyAscot Resources Ltd. is located in Stewart, British Columbia, a unique border town which boasts small-town charm and offers unparalleled outdoor opportunities including chartered fishing and sightseeing, hiking, and fishing, glaciers, and bear viewing, and much more.About the RoleReporting to the General Manager, the Health, Safety, Training, and Emergency Response Manager provides leadership to the organization, project site, and staff for all matters related to health and safety strategies, policies, practices, and activities at Ascot. The Manager is committed to embedding and fostering a health and safety culture of No-Harm while ensuring compliance with provincial and federal regulations. This position works 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, fly in & out.ResponsibilitiesProvides leadership to the organization and site related to Ascot’s values of No Harm.Directs the day-to-day activities of the safety staff, including providing coaching, mentoring, and managing direct reports.Supports the site in the development and implementation of a values-based site safety plan incorporating all aspects of the mine.Develops and reviews the health and safety program, policies, and procedures in accordance with Ascot’s values, site requirements, government regulations and legislation.Fosters and embeds a health and safety culture where every individual within the company, as well as external contractors, vendors, and suppliers takes accountability for the health and safety of themselves and others.Maintains the effectiveness and continued development of the health and safety program and provides direction and support to its application.Ensures compliance with the health and safety program; conducts inspections toensure the health and safety requirements and government legislation is being always followed.Ensures staff and others are trained and current in all health and safety practices.Researches, plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates training programs.Ensures all company and statutory reports are compiled and distributed as required for health and safety records.Identifies and mitigates potentially dangerous and hazardous situations.Provides expert health and safety advice and support to the organization, including developing health and safety strategies for the execution strategies during all phases from construction to operations.Conducts audits and analysis, researches trends, highlights health and safety issues, makes recommendations and / or issues instructions (based on reports, audits, and incident analysis) that will be implemented to enhance the program’s performance.Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with regulatory bodies, service providers / contractors, local communities, and all levels of staff to ensure a strong health and safety focus and culture.Maintains awareness of all current occupational health and safety legislation, codes of practices and procedures to be followed.Stays current on future legislation affecting work done on site.Ensures an effective health and safety induction program is implemented and maintained.Supervises project service providers to ensure a comprehensive health and safety plan is managed within the requirements of Ascot.Develops and oversees the implementation and leadership of the site emergency response team.Develops clear strategies for emergency management on site.Performs other related duties as required.Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree, diploma, certificate, or other professional qualifications in Health and Safety ManagementCertified Occupational Health and Safety ProfessionalOccupational First Aid certification, Level 3 an assetPrevious Mines Rescue Certification and demonstrated knowledgeabilityMinimum of 8 years’ recent, related experience in a mining environment (operations and / or project development), including 3 years’ supervisory experience.Experience in mining operations and / or mine project development and construction.
