Job description

MatchBox Consulting Group is looking for an  Intermediate Distribution Engineer  in Burnaby, BC . Our client, a Crown Corporation, is one of Canada’s leading energy providers. They generate, transmit, and distribute electricity, operating an extensive network of hydroelectric and thermal generating stations across British Columbia.

Responsibilities :

  • Investigate, analyze, and solve various engineering problems, contributing to technical standards and design practices.
  • Perform circuit analysis, including load flow, voltage stability, fault current, motor start, power quality emission limit, and protection coordination studies, designing equipment settings accordingly.
  • Make recommendations for system improvements and new customer connections, working closely with stakeholders to find solutions that add value and address safety, environmental protection, and life cycle costs.
  • Validate the scope of planned Capital Projects and provide feedback to the Distribution Planning Team, developing and maintaining professional relationships to prioritize and resolve issues.
  • Fulfill the role of Owner’s Engineer by reviewing external consultants' work for accuracy and compliance with BC Hydro system needs and engineering practices.
  • Work independently under the general direction of senior engineers, supporting high-profile work and collaborating effectively with Project and Program teams to deliver Capital Programs.

Requirements :

  • Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with relevant experience.
  • Be registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with EGBC.
  • Have a minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience in utility distribution or a related industry.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge in both overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems up to 35kV.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, able to present technical solutions to diverse audiences.
  • Exhibit strong leadership, teamwork, relationship management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
