Who are we looking for?

Due to continuing growth, we are seeking a Project Controls Specialist for our Ontario Region located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ontario, Canada. This individual is a fully qualified professional with thorough knowledge in planning, scheduling, cost controlling and risk management within a consulting engineering environment.

The Project Controls Specialist will work within Ontario’s Regional Project Management Office (PMO) to provide cost and schedule analytical support to several sector group Project Managers (PM’s) across the Ontario Region. Support will be provided both in person and remotely.

Responsibilities include :

  • Implementing all project control aspects including Scheduling, Cost Control, Change Management, and Risk Management, following GHD policies and industry best practices. Strong knowledge of Project Measurement and Earned Value principles is important.
  • Taking a hands-on approach to project controls functions depending on project complexity.
  • Collaborating closely with the PM on major project functions, focusing on managing and supporting project controls.
  • Providing recommendations on financial, scheduling, and other project implications to meet or exceed KPIs.
  • Reviewing budgets and schedules with the PM, Design Manager, and Discipline Leads regularly, identifying gaps and proposing solutions.
  • Recommending on change notices following best practice change management techniques.
  • Working effectively with finance and project administrators to ensure accurate budgets and invoices, coordinating with the PM for client invoicing.
  • Coaching or mentoring team members on project controls best practices as needed.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent diploma with at least 10 years of experience in project controls within a design / engineering environment.
  • Experience in managing project controls for large, multi-discipline engineering projects, especially in industrial / process plants, facilities, or buildings.
  • Proficiency in scheduling methods, cost control, risk management, and project metrics like earned value, CPI, SPI.
  • Experience with project control systems such as P6, Acumen Fuse, and familiarity with ERP or cost systems.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Project, Primavera P6, and Power BI.
  • Ability to handle uncertainty and changing priorities.
  • Team management and mentoring skills.
  • PMP, PMI, or similar certifications are advantageous.
